Sandiegal Posted November 19, 2004 #1 Share Posted November 19, 2004 Can someone or more than one person tell me about their experiences with "The Glory" cruise? Do you have pictures? Tips? This is my first time on a cruise so there are alot of unknowns. Also, are there any viewers that are going on the cruise in January? :)

coold8 Posted November 19, 2004 #3 Share Posted November 19, 2004 http://www.gadvworld.net/photos/thumbnails.php?album=16 Those are our personal photos, a little bit of us, a lot of boat. Hints? John Lover? Try Ivory Club between 6-8pm for a secret meet and greet! Also, Inet Cafe manager Andrew, is a nice guy to talk to. Ivory Club Jazz gets great from 10-12 and many employees hang around in there, and if it gets crowded, the Jazz band really gets goin. I was just on it on the 10/30 cruise. Also get to the Port Early, to avoid, huge lines. The sooner you get on the ship, the last you will have to go with the huge crowds to figure out where it all is. Enjoy your cruise, hope the photos help. Also, don't fall into John's Bedtime Story, no matter how funny it may seem, and no matter how much he pushes that video, it is the same every week, with slightly different people (still the same ethnic groups, 90-95% of the time). It is really just a sales pitch to get you to buy a video of the low selling talent show, because it only sells to those family members of people in the show. The spa, has a neck and should and back message, for $35 for 15 minutes, and if you are looking for a quick fix, that is the more affordable, and comforting way to go. molme Posted November 19, 2004 #4 Share Posted November 19, 2004 We will be on the Jan 22 sailing of the Glory. When are you sailing? I think all of the Jan sailing are on the Carnival Roll Call board.
dsclark Posted November 19, 2004 #5 Share Posted November 19, 2004 You may find chairs on the pool deck in short supply- it gets real crowded there on sea days! A really, really good "secret" area is deck three, outside the pursers area. It is totally deserted, has PADDED lounge chairs, is not windy and, get this- from your chair, as you relax, you can see the ocean right through the deck railing. It is quiet, you can read a book, get hypnotize by the sea, try it- you'll like it!
cruztime Posted November 19, 2004 #6 Share Posted November 19, 2004 We just came off her for the 2nd time. Definitely go to the Cinnabar piano bar. Ron is great. It's a riot every night. Social!!!! You'll get what it means when you see him. I think he is there thru January. For deck chairs, if you don't have to be at the pool, try the decks right above the aft pool and higher. It's much less crowded. We never had a problem with chairs there but then again we don't like hanging around the main pool. The pizza is a must have. The disco got hopping pretty good after 1130. The bedtime story although the same each time was still very funny. John is a great cruise director. If Percy Cruz is the late night adult comic still, go catch his act. He's hysterical! Although we didn't see it, I understand that Marcus Anthony's Motown act is great. The other shows were OK. Skip the sword swallower and the magician. I did contribute pretty good to the casino fund. Service was great. Really I have no complaints but then again how can anyone have a bad cruise? What's not to like about sunny and low 80's each day. Have a great trip! basketballmom Posted November 19, 2004 #7 Share Posted November 19, 2004 Dsclark: Thanks for the getaway to read tip! I love to find a quiet place to go sit and read and getaway from it all. You can only hang around the pool area for so long! We are going next July and I can't wait. I appreciate all the tips and feedback from all the past Glory cruisers. Keep the information flowing! Facation Fanatic Posted November 19, 2004 #8 Share Posted November 19, 2004 I have been on her and she is absolutley beautiful. I don't know where to begin so I'll point you in a direction that hopefully will help. Carnivals website has virtual tours of the ships so that would be a good place to look. That are many boards, including this one which is the cream of the crop in my opinion, that offer reviews of past cruisers. Many of those reviews will include links to their pictures. Also, Carnival offers videos of all their ships and I think they are in the $10 range. You can get the number off their website. Just keep checking with the board everyday and you should be ready to go. The Glory is a magnificent vessel and I'd sail her again in a heartbeat. I know you will have fun. Just remember in reading the reviews that the opinions expressed are subjective and individualized to that cruiser's own experiences. You will have to draw your own conclusions as you sail. The most important things you can pack are patience and a good positive attitude!

Cruising89143 Posted November 20, 2004 #11 Share Posted November 20, 2004 Can someone or more than one person tell me about their experiences with "The Glory" cruise? Do you have pictures? Tips? This is my first time on a cruise so there are alot of unknowns. Also, are there any viewers that are going on the cruise in January? :) Below are links to photos and also a virtual tour of the ship. I was on the Glory last year. While this ship is not at the top of my list of ships she is very nice looking. I found her way too crowded and over the top with smoke. http://community.webshots.com/user/cruisingator http://www.virtualtoursusa.com/carnivalglory.htm
dsclark Posted November 20, 2004 #12 Share Posted November 20, 2004 Do you people feel like me that people on stage are props, I can't believe all those peopel are for real, what do you rhink? we we on 10/23/04 cruise, sword swollower was horrible, magician was bad, I think norwegian has better shows, my opinoin tho larry I think the entertainment on the Glory was pretty poor.I think this is more a fact than an opinion. For example, a year before cruising the Glory, I did the Explorer of the Seas and the Ecstacy four day cruise. Both of those ships had a variety show consisting of dance numbers, comedian and cirque soleil type contortionist. Glory? The show consisted of the CD telling us over and over what a wonderful time we were going to have, the audience participation schtick and 15 minutes of a comedian. That's it! Shows? They were great- if you like lip synchers! I was surprised that that the old Ecstacy had better entertainment. Heck, the Glory holds more people, couldn't they give us at least the same quality entertainment? Cheap, cheap!
tracyg13 Posted November 20, 2004 #13 Share Posted November 20, 2004 I just booked the Glory last night for my family of four. Did they have the two main shows like they do on other ships? Does anyone know who the cruise director will be in April 2005?
workn2cruise Posted November 21, 2004 #14 Share Posted November 21, 2004 I just booked the Glory last night for my family of four. Did they have the two main shows like they do on other ships? Does anyone know who the cruise director will be in April 2005? yes there are 2 evening shows. we just got off the Glory yesterday. As far as the shows being staged, I don't know. Have you ever seen a guest grab the CD around the waist, wrestle them to the ground and ride them like a bull? That's what happened during John's bedtime story, it was hysterical, I've never laughed so hard and so often!
Lauri32 Posted November 21, 2004 #15 Share Posted November 21, 2004 Yes, I think the bedtime story is staged. I know people can get crazy sometimes. But I have a feeling they are "coached" beforehand.
iluvdoxies Posted November 22, 2004 #16 Share Posted November 22, 2004 Yes the piano bar did rock!!!!! Boy did I pay for it!!!!! Ricky makes a mean cosmo. As far as the bedtime story goes- yes they are rehersed-- have seen 2 versions- one with Gregg kneal and John Healds- they were both hysterical- I did like "Mary" better in John's- but the "hero" in Gregg's was just too funny. The Ivory bar is a great place for after diner drinks with a group that plays classical music- very elegent and relaxing. Dont miss the production shows, they are good- The deli has great sandwiches and the fish and chips are yummy. Also try the supper club- well worth the 25.00 per person charge. Have a great cruise!
