What to do in Tortola?

We just got off the Dawn and did something completely different at the Tortola stop. One of the people in our group found a private boat charter place ( http://www.sandspurcharters.com/index.html ) and a group of ten of us went over to Jost van Dyke (sp?) and spend the afternoon at the Soggy Dollar Bar http://www.soggydollarbar.com (after a Stop at Foxys http://foxysbar.com first). Both were a great time. The Soggy Dollar has no pier so you have to jump out of your boat and swim/wade to shore (really - thus the name) which just really added to the fun.

The private charter was not cheap (about about $150 per person, plus a tip for the captain) but well worth it.

I didn't coordinate it so I don't know the details in full, but for my two cents, it was well worth it. If we take that itinerary again odds are good we'd do the same thing.

Last year, on the Pearl, we took the NCL excursion to the Resort at Long Bay. We loved it! Last week, on Celebrity, we returned to Tortola and decided to go to Long Bay again. We took a Taxi ($9 per person each way) which was much cheaper than NCL's excursion. Turns out that all of the beaches on Tortola are public -- even at hotels. You can use the resorts lounge chairs for free. The hotel also has nice bathrooms, a bar, and restaurant. It's our favorite beach in the Caribbean. The area closest to the hotel has some coral near the shore. If you're really in to snorkeling or boday surfing, just stroll down the beach a bit further where there isn't any coral.

Baths are a must see (at least once) If I remember correctly the ferry took about 45 mins. each way. If you are on a short day it leaves little time at the Baths. Saying that Brewer's Bay is where it's at. Next to Cane Garden BUT... some of the best snorkeling of of any beach if you own your own equipment, almost deserted with a small bar and restroom.
