I am planning to book the whitepass rail road thru' chilkoot for my cruise to Alaska via the pearl scheduled for the first week of June . I understand that there is a bus/rail combo package . I would like to know what is better going up via bus and coming down via train or the reverse or does it really matter and both are any way same..Can somebody let me know.

I prefer going up by train but it's not a big deal. I think it's the fact that it's historically accurate that way (as most people in the early years were headed for the Klondike goldfields), and the scenery gets more and more dramatic. Of course, going up by bus the scenery gets more and more dramatic too.
