Driving in from New Orleans to Galveston....

We are driving in from New Orleans next weekend (2/21)...and I have a few questions.

1.) Is the ferry that runs to Galveston open?

2.) Is it faster to go this way or is there a faster way?

3.) If the ferry is open, what type of wait will there be on Saturday about 1 pm?

Thanks for your help--- any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

in answer to your question-

1. yes- the ferry is fully operational

2, yes, i believe that would be the shorter route, however you can go I10- sate hwy 146-I45 then across the Causeway to Galveston, but the I10-hwy 124-hwy 87 is much shorter.

3. no way to tell, on weekends it tends to be busier... it's a crap shoot... are you leaving on the Conquest on Sunday or on the Ecstasy? I would guess the Ecstasy as I have some frineds booked on that one.... If it was me, I would leave N.O. as early as possible and just spend the extra time on the Strand in Galveston, or seeings some of the other things available there.....but, that is just me....I am not a big risk taker
