Really enjoyed reading your balanced review, Sig.. You wrote you went by the bazaar table going to your cabin and the casino.. did you play in the casino, and if so, how'd you do?

Are you going to post any pics?

Thanks again.

PS-DW and I are a couple people who actually like the techno music NCL plays at their White Hot Night parties.

We like techno music as well, but the crowd's energy was lost so quickly when it was techno beat after techno beat. The party really got going 15 minutes into it when the "Cupid Shuffle" came on. The dance floor went from 10 to ~80-100 just for that one song. After that, DJ Jelly Jean threw in some new top 40 and remixes that kept the energy going.

Where were the 2 for 1 drinks everyone mentions? We are not "drinkers" per say, but we are looking for deals and missed that one. Was it in daily news letter?

There were 2 for 1 mojitos and martinis. I don't remember where the mojitos were, but the martinis were in the Plantation Club (next to Cagneys) from 6pm - 8pm. PC is a great place to see the ship leave port, see the sunset, and have cheap pre-dinner drinks. All the drink specials are in the Freestyle Daily.

Also, there is a Bar crawl on White Hot Night, which for us was the last night. You get a drink in each of the 5 bars for $25. Let's just say it got a nice sized crowd.

I like spending time in the casinos on the ships. What's so bad about the Sky casino?

I didn't think there was anything "bad" about the Sky casino. I found the Monte Carlo night a bit lacking and the smoke in the casino was annoying at times, but nothing out of the ordinary. Sure the ventilation could be improved and the Monte Carlo night could be moved to a more spacious area, but those small knocks didn't dissuade us from going to the Casino every night.

We were on the sky for four days on feb 2, and were quite disappointed. We just found the ship to be dirty. Drinks expensive. Waiters/waitresses very pushy. Ship had somewhat of a poor layout. We had booked to imagination before this one, and switched because of the price. Would rather have paid a few bucks more. I think we went on the cruise with too high of expectations. If we were in college still, I think it would be a fun party ship. We are only in our thirties, but felt this ship was a tad too much of a spring break party ship. That is our opinion though, and am sure others loved it. For the price, it doesn't hurt to try it out and see for yourself!

I would have to agree with you that the drinks were very expensive. I will disagree that the Sky is a Spring Break party ship. I think it would have to be a bit more wild for it to inch up to that area. Maybe a tame Frat Party? :).

In terms of the cocktail waiters, I would rather have them constantly asking me wanted something then for them to never be around and I have to go to the bar for a drink. I personally found this out on the last night of the cruise when only 1 person was working a busy night in the casino. That person had to make and run the drinks out to everyone. Meanwhile there were 4-6 bartenders and ~3 cocktail servers at the slow Toga party.

My GF has the camera with all of the photos on it, but we didn't take any photos of the bazaar. We did have quite a laugh at some of the misspellings in their signs though, which I wanted to take a photo of, but my GF thought it was mean. I will post some photos once I can get my hands on the photos.

In terms of the casino, I played every night. I am a craps player and did pretty well (~+$250). I highly recommend Christina (from Romania) at the craps table. She is very patient and great at teaching the game. I've been playing craps for 6+ years and she taught me some new bets. She is one of the best craps dealers I've played with.

Another casino tip: on embarkation go to the casino and sign up for the players club (free) and get the coupon booklet. The booklet is great to increase your bet with the house's money. Also, attend the quick tutorials at each of the tables to get additional coupons.

Thanks for posting the review. We ate in the Cagneys, Le Bistro and the italian on our b2b sailing on the Sky in December. I liked the menu in the italian best as it gave you alot to choose from.

In Le Bistro the lamb was delicious and so was the fondue.

In Cagneys the shrimp coctail was HUGE!

All thre restaurants were very good.

The 2 for one Martinis were great in the Plantation Club from 6-8pm daily.

Cant wait to go back in two weeks.

Hopefully when the ship goes into dry dock they will upgrade several of the areas that look worn.

I don't do the casino thing, but my hubby talked me into putting ten bucks in the nickle slots, and after my second try, I won $140... and then I cashed out. In regards to the waiters, we had a day at sea because we couldn't go to their island, and I am not even exaggerating... not even every five minutes, someone was trying to get us to buy a bucket of beer, even though we had one clearly on our table. It was starting to really get annoying... But, that was only that one day! The other days, there were the odd waiter/waitress around.

  • 2 weeks later...

I think that I saw on another post that you were staying in the same room that we are booked in for an upcoming April sky cruise. We have never cruised before, and are taking in the good and bad reviews, and know that we will have a great time regardless. Please tell me that the room (0001) is decent for a family of 4................... :)
