krazycruiser Posted February 24, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2009 My family and I are going on the March 28th sailing of the Star..I'm of Mexican decent and am a bit worried about this new travel alert for Mexico. We are traveling with two kids...14 and 9. I traveled to Mexico many many times in my childhood and as an adult, I have always felt safe ,I've been all over to Monterrey and el D.F (mexico city) I never taken my kids ,with this alert Im a bit on edge..I also read somewhere about a robbery during a horseback riding trip. Is it pretty safe to take a taxi to the sea life park...or should I just go through the ship and pay more?? Im usually not a worryu wort at all...my dh has gotten to me! Crime is everywhere in the world and bad things happen to good people when they least expect it. Having said that ... you will be taking a short trip on Vallarta's version of a limited access highway in broad daylight. You will get in and out of the taxi in very public places. Here is a map to show you where/how you travel - http://www.vallarta-info.com/marina.html The port is at the bottom, you will travel north on the major highway to the next map up. Sea Life Park is just east of the OXXO station at the first Nuevo Vallarta exit. The ship's tour will travel the very same route as you and your taxi. Why do you think a bus load of tourist would be safer than a taxi load of tourists? We stay in Vallarta and travel the back-country every year and crime rate is much lower there than in my home city. In the end ... you will do what you think is best for your family and that is always the right thing to do. Enjoy!
