brilliantseas Posted February 26, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 26, 2009 As kind a sequel thread to yesterday's Triumph vs. Pride thread, my parents are now debating between the Triumph and the Valor. The Triumph sailing is a week earlier and includes stops in Ocho Rios, Cozumel, and Grand Cayman. The Valor sailing stops in Grand Cayman, Belize, Roatan and Cozumel. Everything considered, the total cost (airfare, hotel, cruise) of the Valor cruise is about $100 more than the Triumph sailing. I know about the ports and prefer Roatan over Ocho Rios, but the Valor has significantly less time in Cozumel, my favorite port. My question is, which ship do you prefer overall? Is there anything on one vessel that you prefer over the other or that one ship has and the other doesn't?
Texarribean Chick Posted February 26, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 26, 2009 Having been on the Valor 3 times and the Triumph only once (and will definitely be the last) I would definitely choose the Valor. My Experience with the Triumph and it's sister ship, the Victory is that the common areas are way smaller. There are just a many passengers on each class of ship; but the lines for casual dining, pool chairs, drinks, etc. are much greater on the Triumph. Good Luck! C. bobar Posted February 26, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 26, 2009 I still like the Triumph better than any of the 8 or so carnival ships ive been on including the Valor. As a matter of fact my 2 least favorite are the Fascination and the Valor. The Valor struck me as dark and gloomy and the mood of the crew was like that as well... I loved my Triumph cruise..That was back in 2001 but still remember how much i loved that ship ..Especially the public decks..Seemed like it had the nicest casino and hangout area at sea of any ship ive been on. I was on the valor last year so fairly recently and just really found nothing to rave about on it. SkyMaster Posted February 26, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 26, 2009 I too have sailed both the Valor, and the Triumph. I too very much prefer TRIUMPH, as it just seems to have a much better crew, and the food was truly outstanding. Since the price is lower, and it sails to, and spends more time in a port that you really, really like, I'd think there wouldn't be any question as to which ship to book. I'd go TRIUMPH in a heartbeat! Ken "SkyMaster" P.S. Just sailed Triumph the first week of Feb. Truly an outstanding cruise.

Have never been on the Valor. I was going to sail on it once, but, then they changed ports for the Valor and it never came to NYC. It depends on what you like. I say go on the Triumph, but, I like the Triumph. I'm going on my third voyage of the Triumph this fall.
MamaParrotHead Posted February 27, 2009 #7 Share Posted February 27, 2009 I've sailed on both, and Valor wins hands down, no contest. Jamaica is probably my least favorite port, and to me, that's a wasted day because I don't know if I'd even bother getting off the ship there. The extra $100 for an extra port day on the Valor would be well worth it for me. The Triumph was more than "well worn", and I missed the few extra bells and whistles the Valor offered. Given the fact that the Valor is like 6 or 7 years newer, I'd consider that as well. Plus the fact that there are so many more excursion options in Belize and Roatan than Ocho Rios, also something to consider. I don't know that you can base your decision on other people's opinions on crew or the particular crowd on their sailing, as both change frequently. JMHO. ThePatientOne Posted March 5, 2009 #8 Share Posted March 5, 2009 I have sailed the Triumph and am sailing the Valor for a Salute to Veterans cruise in November.. I did not really care for the Triumph, as other posters have said, she was very worn when I sailed her. Very bad smell in the rear elevator lobby on all decks.. Smelled like rotting garbage. (Nice smell to smell right as you enter the dining room for dinner) I can't say about the Valor until after my cruise.
