Can you pre load your ss card?

Recommended Posts

When I called Carnival they told me that I could not put On Board Credits (which is what pre-loading money on your on board acct is...) on anyone under 21's acct. That is just what I was told. Can anyone tell me if your final statement is one statement for a family of 4 or will it be 4 individual statements?

Click this link...

http://www.carnival.com/BonVoyage/AddToCart.aspx?cat=giftcertificates&pid=FSD

Scroll down and add the numer next to the 'certificates' that you want to purchase. For example I just added $50 to my OBC by putting the number 1 next to the $50 choice.

Scrolll down more and type in your info. Put "ON BOARD CREDIT", on the address line. I also type that phrase in the "custom message" line just to be sure. Then when you go to the next page, type in your CC/Debit card info.

I just did this and got the following email...

Thank You for shopping at Carnival's Gifts and Services.

Below are the details of your order including your Order Number.

Please print and keep this page for your records.

Order Number:

Item NoNameQtyPriceTaxItem TotalBooking #Cabin #Well WishesCourtesy OfDeliver OnRecipientsFSD50Fun Ship Dollars

1.0000$50.00$.00$50.00ON BOARD CREDIT

They will then send you a follow-up email that says the following...

Thank you for your Gift Certificate order. Your order will be applied as On-board Credit.

Please allow 3 business days for this to be applied. If you have any questions please contact Special Programs at 1-800-906-7603. Please reference the order number in the subject line of this e-mail.

No sweat. They took the $50 right out of my checking account.

I tried to add money to my account and they insisted it had to be funship dollars - What do I do now?

Thanks

Teresa

Do you live in Tampa if so where

You DO buy Funship Dollars but tell them you don't want them sent to you. Tell them to apply the Funship Dollars to your account.

They'll need your booking number and sailing date.

Thanks what I was thinking though was somehow setting up an automatic debit from my checking account. I could send a spevcific amount of money every month until I cruise. If I do it automatically I won't see it thus I won't miss it. Additionally I won't forget to do it.

Call 'em up and give it a shot and let us know how it goes...it's a good idea.

I have a hard time sending money to big corporations over the internet. Yes, I have 'trust' issues when it comes to cash transactions, especially when I don't have a product on my doorstep in a few days to show something for the money I sent.

Anyhoo, I also print out the email conformations and receipts, but one last thing I do is check my account on the Carnival website to see if the money has been posted. Usually takes a couple of days, but for my 'peace of mind', I sign in on the main website, go to 'My Cruise', 'Manage Bookings', and click on 'Modify Booking'. Scroll down to see your account and payments and on 'Booking Charge/Credit', it shows your S&S credit.

Makes me feel better anyway.

I just tried this and my onboard credit buying funship dollars putting the cabin number is not there:confused:

If the current economy has taught us anything, it is that personal responsibility when it comes to debt is in the minority. With the housing market/credit card debt/job loss in the mainstream media every minute of every day, most people can easily come to the conclusion that living on a budget is just about mandatory for most.

And walking onto a ship with what is basically a 'pre-paid' credit card for purchases, folks may find it easier to live within that budget while on vacation.

I have never done it but it seems like putting money down ahead of time would relieve stress for those of us who are on a tight budget or the Dave Ramsey plan.

I went back and looked at the email from Carnival and I have two more days to wait before it will show :(

It takes several days for it to show up on your account.

Also, someone said to put "On Board Credit".

I've always just used my booking number.

I want to make sure it goes on MY account, not someone elses. :p

We've done this for each cruise.

Works for us!

My experience is that if you booked your cruise with a TA and not Carnival, you cannot see your OBC as msubobcats has described. You have to wait until after you have made final payment. After that you can login and go My Documents and click on the VIEW button (which wasn't there until after we made final payment). My OBC is shown on page 8 at the bottom of the itemized charges for the cruise. :D

My DW and I are new to the cruise scene and have booked our first cruise to Alaska in July. Been acting like Sponge Bob here on CC, soaking up as much information as possible from the veterans.

This thread has been a very interesting topic; excuse me for sounding so ignorant but I've only been able to follow a few of the acronyms:

CC = Credit Card

DC = Debit Card

OBC = On Board Credit

GC = Gift Card

Can someone explain SS Card or S&S CARD.?

Sign and Sale cards are used instead of cash on board the ship. You can use it for Bingo, Drinks, Casino, Super Club,Pictures, Gift shop, Tips . The cruise lines try to be cashless. You have to use a credit/debit card for your charges unless you put cash down instead of a credit card.

Some other acronyms are

DH= Darling Husband

DW= Darling Wife

DS= Darling Son

DD= Darling Daughter

oh and don't forget DOD= Drink of the Day. I always tip my room Stewart with cash the first day and he keeps the soda cold and the room is spotless. I do this because they work so hard and when you hand someone cash it is theirs to keep if you buy a drink that tip that they charge you 15% goes in a pot and around 35 bartenders have to split it for the week.

I hope this helps you some! Welcome to Cruising:cool:

I do this for every cruise. I don't like using credit cards so this is the way I put money on my account without having a big bill at the end. Make sure you print out the email confirmation once it has cleared your bank. Last time they sent two email's one that I ordered them and one that it is on my ship board account. Just bought some this morning. (my tips are already taken care of) :D I don't like having to come up with a big chunk of money for the cruise and you never even see the money. If you don't spend what is on your account you will get a check under your door on the last morning of the cruise (I like it when I get money back):cool:

I was going to do this but when I read the "terms" in small print it said "7) This certificate may not be used to pay for games of chance and or similar activities. When used as an onboard credit it can not be used to pay for gratuities. This certificate can not be used and is not applicable for group travel or payments related to group bookings and amenities" which means this money cannot go towards tips, which is $350 for the wek for our family. Is this true??? It also says there is no cash value so it sounds like you can't get leftover $ back. ???

I saw that also. If you buy a $5.00 drink they add a $.75 tip. Then you up the tip by $1.00 more. How can they split all these charges so that some of it comes out of obc, and the rest they bill your debit or credit card? Sounds like an accounting nightmare.

On my second cruise is when I found cruise critic and learned how to do this. The automatic tipping comes off your S & S card. So they do take it for tips. When you buy drinks look at the 15% and it comes off for the bartender. On my last cruise I sat for many hours talking with the female bartender on the Inspiration and I had asked her if for every person she serves does she get to keep the tip? She said NO that money goes into a pool between the bartenders and they have to split it with around 35 of them. This gets split at the end of each cruise. I asked her if someone tipped in cash would it go in the pool or can she keep it and she said Yes any passenger that tips with cash is theirs! So on the last night of the cruise I went back to my favorite bartender and GAVE her cash. She was very Thankful for getting the cash from me.

Oh I forgot......On my second cruise the last night of the cruise they slipped a check under the door for what I did not spend on my loaded S & S card. (I am guilty I smuggled that cruise) My check was for $3.99. But at least I got money back from Carnival. My third cruise I over drank (did'nt smuggle this time) so I ended up using my loaded S & S card and my debt card:cool:

Thanks,

This is all great info for first time cruisers, is this pretty typical of most Cruise Lines?

We were planning on using our CC for our Alaskan Cruise in July. We've currently booked with Princess on the Diamond. While setting our cruise preferences I noticed an offer for a Princess Visa, so we figured we would sign up and use this for all our cruise related expenses and earn double points in the process.

We both do a lot of online shopping, from Clothes to Auto Parts and equipment; it’s a great way to save money if you know what you’re looking for. I rarely ever carry a balance for more than 30 days and I don’t make large purchases unless I have the cash to back it up.
