Can you pre load your ss card?

Recommended Posts

OK...How would this work if I wanted to put money down on my wife's S&S card as well?

Thanks,

Tim:cool:

The S & S cards are tied together for the room. So if you put a card down when you check in it goes to that card. I may be wrong but I think it is the same. We have only used one card so everything goes off of that.

Rather than screw around with the website and everything, I just call 1-800-906-7603 and tell them you want to put some cash on your S&S. Don't use the term "Funship Dollars" or they'll kick you back to the Gifts Dept. All you need is your booking number. And if you booked through Carnival, you can see the OBC show up on your account within a few days.

I see that you have sailed alot and are pretty regular at posting, so I am going to ask you my question. If I buy the GC's and put them as OBC, can I then use that OBC in the casino? We used or S&S card in the casino on our last cruise and I really liked not carrying around the cash. I am going to pre-pay my gratuities because it says they can not be used for that. Is this true even if you use them as OBC. Also, if there is any left over at the end if the cruise, do they refund your money?

Alot of questons, but my DH keeps asking and I don't know the answers.

On our first cruise, I called the Bon Voyage department about putting money on our S&S cards and he was very rude and never even suggested the Fun Ship dollars.

Thank you ahead of time!

I'm not 100% certain what OBC can or cannot be used for. We don't use the casino, so I'm no help in that area. And normally we just load up on our S&S what we think we'll need and it's never been a problem. Had it within a few dollars last time, LOL. :D I don't know that OBC cannot be used for tips, each time we've prepaid our S&S with the purchased OBC, it covered everything (as in, we weren't charged the $70 per person on our credit cards or anything). Perhaps that's one of the differences between getting Funship Dollars and calling and directly putting OBC on your S&S account.

Is the number you posted the Bon Voyage department? because the last time I called them, the guy told me it could not be done so I never persued it after. Also, when you call, do you ask for OBC and not the fun ship dollars because I would much rather do that>

On my cruise, I put $$$ on my account ahead of time by purchasing the Fun Ship Dollars online as described in previous messages. I was sharing a cabin with another person who I was NOT sharing a S&S account with. I took my email printout to check in and it wasn't a problem at all. They never mixed up our charges and I was able to use my OBC for the casino, drinks - everything!

When I ran low of funds after hitting the photo area pretty hard (won't do that again :p) I was given a discrete notice under my cabin door and I went down to the desk immediatley and put more cash on the account.

Couldn't have been simpler!

Thank you so much...I am going to give it a try!! I'll let you know how it goes.

by the way, where in Iowa do you live. I know it is a big state, but my Mom's family is from there. Right now, most of them live in a little town( and I mean little) called Seymour. You can buy a home there for under $50,000.

I'm in extreme east-central Iowa in Dubuque. I Googled it and it looks like Seymour is extreme south-central. ;)

I have a hard time sending money to big corporations over the internet. Yes, I have 'trust' issues when it comes to cash transactions, especially when I don't have a product on my doorstep in a few days to show something for the money I sent.

Anyhoo, I also print out the email conformations and receipts, but one last thing I do is check my account on the Carnival website to see if the money has been posted. Usually takes a couple of days, but for my 'peace of mind', I sign in on the main website, go to 'My Cruise', 'Manage Bookings', and click on 'Modify Booking'. Scroll down to see your account and payments and on 'Booking Charge/Credit', it shows your S&S credit.

Makes me feel better anyway.

Go cats

This must not work if you used a TA instead of PA, I can not see my account if i used these steps above

Last year we paid cash at the desk for our S&S card. We had our tips prepaid but we used it in the casino with no trouble at all. This year our PVP just added our tips to our total due so they will be paid when we pay off the cruise. Think I'll add some OBC ahead of time like suggested here.

As far as the fine print goes, my guess is they are talking about actual fun ship dollars, the ones they mail you. You can't walk into the casino and use them and you can't just hand them to pay for your tips. They have to be placed into a OBC S&S account before they "work" for those items.

Once the account is loaded with them I'm sure they work like anything else.

I do know price reduction OBCs and things like that are non refundable, if you don't use them, you lose them. If Funship $$'s fall under those rules then it could be non refundable.

BE CAREFUL! Carnival automatically deducts tips for all staff including waiters and stewards. That will add a couple hundred to your cruise right there. Carnival will nickel and dime you to death on tips.

Seriously? If you cruise you know tips are required on most lines. I can't believe you are freaking out on threads over tips. Do you go into resturaunts at home and not tip the staff?

If you don't want to tip for the service you receive, stay home.

Just to clarify, ALL of the large cruise lines do this, not just Carnival. Further, if you don't like the auto tips you can remove them at the purser's desk.

Hi Snoopy64

Yes that is my experience too if you book with a TA. My comment on that is somewhere in this thread, but copying below FYI.

My experience is that if you booked your cruise with a TA and not Carnival, you cannot see your OBC as msubobcats has described. You have to wait until after you have made final payment. After that you can login and go My Documents and click on the VIEW button (which wasn't there until after we made final payment). My OBC is shown on page 8 at the bottom of the itemized charges for the cruise. :D

That's another possible distinction between purchasing OBC and Funship Dollars. We had both "refundable" (the OBC we purchased) and "nonrefundable" (that OBC which was given to us for price drops from Carnival). Carnival automatically uses the refundable OBC first, ofcourse, jsut FYI. The OBC we purchased would have been refunded to us if we hadn't used it (yeah, right), LOL. ;)

Okay I think I need help pre-loading my S&S card - I called carnival today and they had a hard time understanding what I wanted - can I use my routing number to have them take it straight out of my checking account or do I need to use a charge card? Who should I call - I used the number from this thread and was transferred many times - Would love some advice.

Thanks Tess
