muddyw Posted July 28, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 28, 2009 I have sailed with P&O many times, including Ventura. I have never known them organise a FOD meeting, although on Ventura earlier this year there were a number of openly gay cruisers.
bellaj Posted July 29, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 29, 2009 We're on the Ventura TA later this year, so it's good to hear we may not be the only ones in the village .... :)
goodclicks Posted July 29, 2009 #5 Share Posted July 29, 2009 There was no organised lgbt meets on Ventura - in fact I don't even recall seeing a solo travellers meet, which is a poor show really. This was the first cruise I took with a partner and I've got to say everyone was very accepting of us and we enjoyed mixing with different people using the freedom dining. However, having said that, you will be on a ship with 3000 other Brits and Brits in general do tend to keep ourselves to ourselves and be more recalcitrant. When people did speak it was to moan about something! I had a lot less fun on this cruise than my solo cruises on more international ships for this reason. Another bugbear was the bed situation. It was clearly requested to be together on our confirmation and, when we arrived, it was seperate. Requesting the cabin steward reaarange them we were told he'd do it tomorrow! Needless to say wanting our first night together we did it ourselves. The attitude of the front desk when I complained wasn't good and in general I found a lit of staff attitude very different from the American lines. Don't let me put you off- it was a very good cruise - but we had our niggles, and it's not a line I'd ever choose to cruise with as a solo gay man.
