deck chair Posted March 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 6, 2009 Hi Gang Will be arriving back to Long Beach on the SPLENDOR on June 14, a sunday. Wondering if there is enough time to get to LAX for a 12:34 flight back to the East. Will take a cab. Any help appreciated. Deck Chair
Curt Jerome Wild Posted March 6, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 6, 2009 Anything after about 12:30 PM is pretty safe. Anything before about 12:30 PM is where people are taking a chance on not making their flights (all it takes is one marine layer or fog problem, customs issues, etc., and those people are screwed)... iggy's mom Posted March 6, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 6, 2009 As long as the Carnival Splendor arrives back into Long Beach on schedule, and there isn't any traffic/accidents on the freeway, you should be fine with a flight anytime after 12:30. Enjoy your cruise! We will be on The Carnival Splendor a few weeks before you. Can't wait!
DEBCAT65 Posted March 6, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 6, 2009 We have made it from San Pedro to LAX for a 10:30am flight several times and no problem (we usually sail RCCL). However, we were flying Southwest from LAX to Tucson and there were several flights after ours that we would have been able to take if we missed our early flight. I would make sure that you would not incur additional fees from your airline for missing your early flight, and that there would be other options available. You are traveling a long distance. I would make sure you have a backup plan just in case. P.S. SoCal freeways can be brutal, even on the weekends. I grew up there. Deb
yogi2929 Posted March 6, 2009 #5 Share Posted March 6, 2009 CJW is right, We will get fog in the morning. Perfectly normal for June in LA. We call it June Gloom. It is caused by the diff in temp of air and ocean. One year it poured in around this date (1996?) Sometimes the airport will close because it is too thick. It can take anywhere from a 1/2 hour to an hour to get to LAX, depending on traffic or fog. As Deb said, LA traffic has no bearing on the day of the week. HTownMC Posted March 6, 2009 #6 Share Posted March 6, 2009 You should make it with no problem. We cruised RCCL in 2007. We had a 12:30 flight back to TX. We were at the gate before 11:00. It was a Sunday. We will be on the Splendor at the same time returning on June 14. We have a 12:30 flight this time also.
