mjmalino Posted March 13, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 13, 2009 We are on a 12-night med from Venice to Barcelona in June (6 of us, 4 adults, 2 kids, ages 11 and 10). We will be stopping in the following ports: Kusadasi, Athens, Mykonos, Istanbul, Naples, Rome, Livorno, and Monte Carlo. In an effort to be a little budget conscious, we would are considering doing some of the ports DIY. My question is which ports, if any, would it be beneficial to actually do a tour, either ship sponsored or private, as opposed to DIY?
Captain Canuck Posted March 13, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 13, 2009 nice to have a guide to explain what you are seeing...same is true of the others but with a little preperation you can do them all on your own...search these boards with the name of each port and you should find lots of advice..upper tool bar third from the right..use the show posts button
CathyCruises Posted March 13, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 13, 2009 I have done all of those ports. I think you need to do an escorted trip in Naples (Amalfi Coast and Pompeii, to get it all in) and Kusadasi (Ephesus). The rest are easy and inexpensive to do on your own. mjmalino Posted March 14, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted March 14, 2009 Has anyone taken a tour in Rome through a company called "Enjoy Rome"? I read about them from Rick Steves and was wondering about them.
Raysha Posted March 15, 2009 #8 Share Posted March 15, 2009 We had a wonderful tour experience in Naples, Rome, and Livorno this past summer. We were cruising and the private tours actually made the cruise secondary. We used easitalytours.com. Max (owner) is phenomenal...set us up to be met at the ship at all three ports...The guides were second to none..such delightful and knowledgeable people..There were four of us and his prices sure beat anything the ship could offer..plus we got to see so much more. Our tours "made" our trip! Our ship had to be re-routed one day and we had no contact with him (ship email was down), but his guide was there waiting when we had to port at a different port...and Max personally called each day to make sure things were going good for us..Outstanding service. Absolutely not one complaint!
