Texaslandshark Posted March 13, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 13, 2009 We did the International Pier shopping strip last cruise and some were talking about going back in much deeper off the main drag to sightsee and shop. Is there anything to recommend that because it looked like there were many blocks to explore?

Perfect Stranger Posted March 13, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 13, 2009 How far apart are the main blocks? For instance, they're numbered Avenue 5, Avenue, 10, etc. Would it be a five minute walk between those main avenues? 10 minutes? 20? I'd just like an idea. Fifth avenue is one block from 10th. 30th avenue (six blocks from waterfront) is one of the two main business arteries of the town. The main area of interest to those that want to see the regular local business community would be straight beyond the downtown pedestrian plaza. The main cross streets that border this area are Juarez (begins at the church on 10th) and AR Salas to the south. Much to do and see within this area of eight square blocks and then travel along 30th avenue if interested. 30th avenue would be a ten minute walk (six blocks) from the waterfront. Do be careful walking around as many sidewalks are not in the best condition and heads up for low hanging, head banging objects. The municipal market, el mercado is one place I'd suggest a visit. You can get, from one main ave to another in under a couple minutes, depending on how many times you stop to check stuff out. Last time we took a land vacation to Cozumel, we were about 11 blocks back into town, on 55 Ave, and we could get to Melgar (the waterfront avenue), in about 15 minutes. Just keep your eye on the sidewalks, as you get further into town, and always keep an eye on traffic, when crossing the Avenues, as most of the have the right of way over all cross streets, and those mopeds, loaded with a family of 4, do not slow down. :D Great fun, and about the only thing remotely dangerous about being in Cozumel. Well, that and the occasional jellyfish while snorkeling.. :p

That's basically what I was getting at, and you answered it. Thanks.
