Sheraton Old San Juan and Senor Frogs

Recommended Posts

We just returned from San Juan, on Monday. We stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel. Senor Frogs is located across the street, to the back side of the hotel. We did NOT hear any noise from that facility, at night.

There is a small casino, located off the lobby of the hotel. That did not present any noise problems, either.

The Sheraton is located in a great location. Shops, restaurants, are within easy walking distance. Our room was nothing spectacular, but the hotel's location, makes it a great place to stay. I would recommend this hotel; no noise problems while we were there.

P.S. The taxi fare from the airport to the Sheraton was $25, for the four of us & 4 pieces of luggage.

There is a greatly amplified duo there on weekend nights. The Sheraton OSJ is very convenient location, but if you stay on the weekend insist on a front side room.

The noise in the backend rooms is unbearable, and continues into the wee hours. It's supposedly music, but it's actually a repetitve boom, boom, boom....!

Did you have a room in the back of the hotel?

I think I'm probably the one who keeps talking about the noise at the Sheraton. We've stayed there 4 separate times in the past two years, always on either a Friday or Saturday night in both high season (Feb) and low season (Sept). The noise is bad if you're in a double bed room. These are the rooms on the Senor Frog side. If you get a room with one bed you should be on the other side away from the booming noise, car alarms, sirens etc.

The noise is worse in high season because obviously there's many more people on the streets at night. In September we still had a problem though. We always take along a white noise sound machine and crank it way up but it doesn't help enough.

FROGGY:

My family of four, stayed in a double bed room. The view from our room was of a parking ramp structure. I assume that this was on the side of the Sheraton, but I am not positive?

The only negative experience at the Sheraton, was that our room was not available, when we checked in. It should have been. The hotel staff checked us in, but told us to return at a later time, to access ourroom. So, we proceeded to walk around Old San Juan, and take in the sights.

Based on another poster's information, I would definitely insist on a room at the front of the hotel. The Sheraton is a long, narrow shape; Senor Frog's is positioned-directly across a small street, at the very back of the hotel. With Senor Frog's close proximity to the back area, I could definitely understand how the noise could be a "problem."

The World Classic baseball series was being held at San Juan, last week. The locals advised that they had been "partying" into the wee hours of the morning, no matter what day of the week it was! Puerto Rico was undefeated, as of last week, so there was great excitement.

I don't know how long this baseball series lasts, or if it is already over?

I was in Old San Juan last week and although I didn't stay at the Sheraton I do remember remarking how close some of the windows on the lower floors were to the Senior Frogs across the street and wondering what the noise level must be like some nights.

Did you book the hotel yourself or thru priceline or hotwire?

do you mind saying how much you paid?

We are thinking of booking another cruise for this fall which departs from San Juan. Last fall we also left from San Juan but I booked our hotel thru Priceline at the resort level and lucked out with Marriott Stellaris Casino and Resort for 140.00 a night but this year I would like to stay in Old san Juan if possible as we didn't use any of the facilities at the hotel since our flight didn't get us to the hotel till after 6pm and would rather enjoy the town this time around since our flight would get in a little earlier in the day. Shopping would be a must ;)

We are planning a cruise next Feb./10 on the AOS out of SJ, our first B2B. We usually make our own arrangements for flights and take a taxi to the pier. But I am unsure about doing this in SJ. We have been there only once in Old San Juan as a port day. So I have some questions for you, if you don't mind.

Thought it would be nice to stay in Old San Juan instead of on the beach as we have many beach /port days.

I remember the Sheraton from our port day. Seems like a great location.

How far to the airport to the hotel in Old San Juan? Which pier would we embark at? And how long/$$ of the ride to the pier?

We like to get a taxi to go to the cruise terminal as we can arrive when we like to and not wait for the shuttle.

Are taxis easy to get, especially when disembarking to get to the airport?

How far is the pier to the airport?

Sorry for all of the questions, but I have always received great advice/tips from these boards.

Any other tips and info. are greatly appreciated.

Rianvi :)

Your AOS cruise embarks from the Pan Am pier across the harbor.

The airport to the Sheraton is about a 15 min taxi ride. There are plenty of taxis right as you exit the airport. It is a fixed cost of $19 for up to 5 people in a cab, and then and additional $1 per luggage.

The taxi ride from the Sheraton hotel in OSJ to the Pan Am pier is about $9 or $10 for the cab plus the $1 per luggage.

From the pier to the airport is probably about 10 mins without traffic, but I hear there is a lot of traffic getting into and out of that area in the morning of disembarkation, so assume about 20 mins. There will be taxi available, though you may have to wait for the next one to show up. It also should be the same $19 fare.
