Cruiser-T Posted November 27, 2004 #1 Share Posted November 27, 2004 Maybe I'm posting this in the wrong area, but need to start investigating cruise insurance for our cruise in March 2005. Is there any companies out there you highly reccomend? We booked through Costco travel, I don't know if they offer cruise insurance. Need some help on this one. Thanks - Terry

RichardK Posted November 27, 2004 #3 Share Posted November 27, 2004 The previous poster gave you a great site to compare different companies and coverages. I won't tell you who to use, but I will tell you who not to use --- don't buy insurance through the cruise line you are traveling on. For the most part you can do much better dollar-wise elsewhere! xpreciousp Posted November 27, 2004 #4 Share Posted November 27, 2004 I was comparing prices on insuremytrip.com and when it came down to the last several and I had questions, I called their 800 #. The rep was genuinely helpful and what I liked MOST was the fact that she didn't steer me to the policies that were more expensive. In fact, she helped me decide to pick CSA Web Direct. (We're paying $163 for 3 people and have everything needed) It was the best price and we got a great policy. She also explained that worrying about "financial default" on the part of an operator is truly NOT a concern UNLESS the airline and/or cruiseline you are booked with is already in financial jeopardy or has filed for bankruptcy. lanabanana Posted November 28, 2004 #5 Share Posted November 28, 2004 We used TravelGuard on our hurricane cruise in Sept and they paid promptly and in full for all of our expences caused by the delay of trip. I was impressed with their service.
CaribbeanBound Posted November 28, 2004 #6 Share Posted November 28, 2004 We always buy trip insurance, but never from the cruise line. We have bought three times from Travelex, but never needed to submit a claim to date. Here are ten great tips for buying trip insurance... *****
Marysunshine Posted November 28, 2004 #7 Share Posted November 28, 2004 I had to cancel two trips due to my husband's preexisting illness. Travelguard paid promptly and kindly on both. If you purchase the insurance withing 7 days of bookings, it covers preexisting illnesses. Thank goodness for them. I would never deal with another company again. MaxKare Posted November 28, 2004 #8 Share Posted November 28, 2004 Booked a cruise to Hawaii and due to some medical situations had to cancel. Travel Guard paid quickly and even paid my non-refundable Priceline hotels and rental cars. Great service.
lauren0309 Posted November 28, 2004 #9 Share Posted November 28, 2004 I took out CSA web direct insurance for our next cruise. For the 4 of us it cost $140.00. Their coverages are the same as other companies for a cheaper price.
CaribbeanBound Posted November 29, 2004 #10 Share Posted November 29, 2004 Sometimes you get what you pay for. However, for all involved, I hope you don't have to use the insurance. (That's the best case scenareo). :)
