3rd and 4th person in the room

Recommended Posts

Don't you think that RCCL prices for 3rd and 4th person in the cabin are way to high? Sometimes the difference between booking a second cabin for these people and having them in your own cabin is less than $100. I think is time Royal Caribbean to do something about that.

I think they are too high for young children. My friend has a 3 yr old that she wants to bring on our next cruise, and the $599 seems very high for a child that won't eat much and certainly won't use many amenities!

For you standard teen or adult, I think it is reasonable, personally, because of all of the food and amenity usage - maybe a little high - but not too bad.

I will not pay it. If the price is this high then we will book 2 adjoining romms or wait for a special on the 3/4 pricing.... seems like we will be waiting a lonnngggg time!

That´s a good point, the 3 year old won´t generate the needed onboard revenue, but having that kind as a third in the cabin ups the head count of people onboard.;)

Then why not just fork out another $100 and get a second room, second bathroom - more space for all.

Yes, this is what we did. Our kids are teenagers, but for people with young kids (5 and under) I think the prices should be way lower.

As a shareholder of a company that currently has junk debt rating (BB), stock down to the $5-10 range, and is about to buy a $1.2b ship, I'm glad that kids are not discounted. Children spend less aboard and increase my headcount for safety reason. Thus, any child onboard has an oportunity cost of an additional adult who is more likely to spend in the spa, casino, and alcohol.

Of course, I do need my ships to sail full and my yield management program helps me in determining at what point I can maximize my profits based on my usual passenger mix.

Also, I have spent a lot of money in children facilities and need to re-coup those cash outlays somehow. Honestly? I would make more money by using Adventure Ocean space with a sports book, bar, cabaret, shops, heck, even a bumper car rink (hmm... interesting...).

All in jest people people (but with - let's be honest - a touch of truth).

To me the food cost is not really an issue. If it was, wouldn't you think the persons loading their plates sky high in the buffets, or ordering multiple entrees in the dining room should pay more per person?

They charge for the head count and a baby counts just as significantly as a full grown adult. That other cruise lines deeply discounts because of age is a business decision that company has made.

Do I agree that a child should pay as much as a full grown adult as a 3/4 pax? Probably not as other venues discount according to age.

My guess is that they are trying to attract a certain buyer. If other lines are discounting for age or (3/4 capacity) while RCCL is not, then they must be willing to see those families move to other lines. The other theory is that those families are buying 2 cabins and the cruise line is making that extra $$ per person. It would be interesting to see how many people buy up to 2 cabins and how many move out to other cruise lines...
