Royal v p&o..... Few Q's please

Hi all,

 

We are previous rcci customers who are going to book the azura for the august 8 canaries cruise.

 

I was wondering what to expect of p and o.

 

We are an English couple and we love the following about rcci....

 

- formal nights ( more the merrier )

- casino

- food food food

- shows and entertainment

- a goodmix of nationalities onboard

 

What can we expect from p and o regarding the above points??

 

Ie: how many foemals on a 12 nighter?

Is the dress code enforced in the MDR?? ( it's not on royal and we wish it was )

 

What is the likely mix of passenger nationalities ( we love our fellow Brits but really enjoy meeting other nationalities and getting to know people outside our own "group").

You will find all you seek on a p&o cruise, especially the formal nights, they say they are more 'formal' on P&O, about 90% of the men wear tux the other men a suit, and they do not tend to change after dinner like they say they do on RCI.

 

The only thing different is 'mix of nationalities, I think you will find mostly Brits onboard...

I agree with Sue's reply, especially the bit about nationalities: it seems to be very nearly 100% Brits on P&O.

 

Have you thought about Celebrity? You could regard it as a more formal version of RCI; definitely formal (about as formal as P&O, certainly in Europe, although I get the feeling that Celebrity might not be quite as formal in the Caribbean), but still having that 'American' buzz. For instance, there's not much action in the casino on a UK ship (some, I know, but not much). Whereas on the two Celebrity cruises I've done, by midnight the casino was the busiest spot on the ship.

 

Celebrity used to be regarded as more expensive than RCI, but that doesn't always seem to the case any more.

We felt that the food wasn't to our liking on P&O much prefer RCI, also a better choice of food on RCI.

 

The Casino's are much smaller on P&O ships and certainly no buzz there.

 

As others have said have a wee look at Celebrity.

If the sailing suits you then P&O will be fine. I found them to be a bit more formal (almost verging on stuffy, but I'm inly 20 and like a bit of nightlife).

 

I sailed RCI last year on Independence and had a great time. Overall I found the food on RCI to be of a lower standard than P&O, but I prefer the overall product of RCI.

 

As has been said, you will likely find a far more limited passenger mix on P&O, but should have a great time!
