What to do in SoBe area, with kids, during the day???

We're splurging and flying in TWO days pre-cruise, so we'll have all day the Saturday before we sail in Miami. I'm thinking of cabbing it to South Beach (we're staying at HI Bayside) because I LOVE the "Wings" store on Lincoln Road. Thinking maybe we could walk down to the beach and just dip our toes in (it WILL be late November, I'm not anticipating REAL beach weather). DH and I will have our kids, 6 and 10, and a few other family members with us. I was wondering if there were any non-"chi chi boutique" stores down there that would be fun to window shop or pick something up in. I saw on the Travel Channel a while back something about an amazing ice cream parlor down there, but didn't catch the name of it.

Is there anything else down there that may fit the bill for "family friendly" way to help pass the day?

Thanks!
