Eastern/Southern Carribean vs. western snrokel

We have snorkeled in Roatan, Cozumel and Great Stirrup Cay and greatly enjoyed it. How does the snorkeling in the Southern or Eastern Carribean compare? We would like to visit somewhere different on our next cruise but still snorkel.

Just got back and the snorkeling off Klein Bonaire was like a fantasy. The reef starts in very shallow water, the sea life was fantastic and the water was crystal clear. I have snorkeled in a few other places but nothing compares to this. If you can get it on your itenerary, you won't be sorry.

Reference to shore snorkeling.

Southern- Bonaire is on par with Roatan

Eastern - Grand Cayman is on par with Cozumel pre Wilma.

If your itinerary does not include those ports, the below are OK compared the above two:

Eastern: St. Thomas, St. John (Trunk Bay)

Southern: St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Kitts, Antigua.

It's going to depend so much on the location at the port you go to, and also whether it's shore or boat snorkeling.

Bonaire has great shore diving/snorkeling. Post-Wilma, snorkeling/diving is not so good near shore, but still good boat snorkeling/diving.

In S. Caribbean, Dominica has the Champaign reef. Good shallow reef that has bubbles from springs, not a lot of fish but lots of interesting bubbles. Top side scenery at Scotts Head is also good. St Lucia is good by the pitons, but need to find a boat that will go there. Barbados has places where you'll swim with lots of turtles. Coki beach at St. Thomas has pretty good shore (free) snorkeling.
