Redrufus Posted March 28, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 28, 2009 What are the facilities for sending emails, please? (I don't have a laptop but do have a Googlemail account). Are there many onboard computers? Are they very busy? Expensive? Any advice will be much appreciated. Thank you.

I haven't been on the Westerdam since the Explorations Cafe/Internet Center moved up to the Crow's Nest, but based on what I saw of that arrangement on the Eurodam I'd say you won't have any problem getting access to a computer most of the time. There may be a few times when all are being used. You can use Googlemail. Costs are: $3.95 to set up an account, then $0.75/minute, OR $55 for 100 minutes, OR $100 for 250 minutes. Bonus minutes are added to the block packages if you sign up on the first day. Generally it will be slow, with download speeds ranging from about 40 Kbps to 200 Kbps. (80% to 400% dial-up speed.) Without a laptop to allow off-line work you'll find your minutes evaporating very quickly. :(
O2B@C Posted March 28, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 28, 2009 I agree with everything jtl said (and I have been on Westerdam since the internet center was moved). As an alternative, if budget is a concern, do some research online before you leave to find internet cafes near the dock in the ports where you will be stopping. Less secure, but if all you want to do is send reports to family and friends about your trip, these facilities are likely to be much less expensive than using the ship's internet connection. Enjoy your cruise!
