Possible CC Group Cruise to Alaska, June 22, 2010 Aboard Carnival Spirit

Oh how cool - it looks like we will be cruising on a big river.

This sounds interesting... please let me know when you get it organized. We went to Alaska about 7 years ago in mid-July, but want to go as close to the summer solstice as possible nest time. Love that midnight sun! :cool:

 

In the meantime I'll start collecting our pennies toward the fare.

Some of it it like a big river, parts of the inner passage and getting to Juneau.

FYI.. you can't drive to Juneau. It is land locked. You have to sail or fly in. Cool, huh?

More of my favorite day.

We wanted to go over White Pass, but the train was more than we wanted to pay, so we rented a car (the best decision of the trip!)

Next, the most beautiful place in the world, the Canadian Yukon!

We went into the Yukon:

 

 

 

 

 

I am sure I will never see any place that beautiful again...well until next year!!!

Then, we went through CarCross desert:

 

 

 

We had sunshine, snow, and desert...all in one day!!

That desert is the coolest thing yet!

We arrived at the place we wanted to see:

Emerald Lake. It is green from a certain algae that lives there:

 

 

 

We brought a sack lunch from the ship and ate it here:

 

We started to rush back to the ship because we wanted to stroll around town and look for souveniers.

So we met a little friend after we got back into the car and started back on the road:

That was the best day ever! We had quite the adventure!

Well, the beautiful weather couldn't last forever and now the clouds and rain came on our way to Sitka...

I'm in 6329, aft wrap, same cabin as I have this summer on the Miracle.

 

Still trying to get this group going, just couldn't chance losing the cabin I wanted.

Our last place to visit was College Fjord. It was amazing!! It was much cooler here! Look at why!

It was really cool watching sea otters lay on the ice chunks and clean themselves. I didn't get any good pictures of that however.

One of the downfalls of the Seattle trip is that you don't go up this far... Oh well, it will still be fun guys!!!!

By my best estimate I think we are 45 - 60 cabins right now.

 

I'm talking to Laura at the moment, she is concerned about us messing up the May group by having another too close to it.

 

for those of you who cannot do May, I suggest writing to groups@cruisecritic.com and letting her know you wan this group to happen.

done. that would be so very disappointing if the only reason we could not be blessed with a cc status is due to concerns over messing up another cruise sail date. the may leader rawks in that there has been support and encouragement all the way through for us.

 

it would be so fun to have a block of cabins together so that a cabin crawl could more easily be facilitated, and so that requests for dining are easier to accomplish. THAT is a legitimate reason for wanting official status.

 

if the powers that be are dead set against allowing this to be an official group, at least we can have a VERY active roll call. it would be nice if we had guidance about how far we can go in attempting to organize ourselves without offending the moderators. could we discuss the above issues without earning an enforced vacation from the boards?
