Need Guest Advice

Recommended Posts

I'm a first time cruiser getting married in Cozumel, Mexico. Many of my guests are first time cruisers as well. What should I tell them to bring? As the bride, should I bring anything special? I want to plan for all of us to have dinner together on the first night at the supper club; what would I be paying for? If anyone has any general advice and maybe a list of things to bring for my guests, it would be greatly appreciated.:)

I have complied a few random things from this site that people suggest to bring:

Extension plug

Bungee cord for balcony door (if have balcony)

Over the door shoe hanger to use the slots for toiletries, not much room for that in the bathroom

Size of carry-on luggage to 24"W x 16"H

$1 and $5 bills for tipping

For excursions: Zip lock bags, grab packaged food before leaving the ship, and bottled water, places can be expensive (esp GC), water shoes, hand

sanitizer, underwater camera, sunscreen

And what not to bring:

Irons********************************************************************

Heating Pads*************************************************************

Candles********

Household appliances with heating elements, such as microwave ovens, coffee makers, toasters, etc.

Weapons (duh!)

No water floatation items (beach balls, tubes, etc) in the pools on board (exception- life preservers/floaties)

Beach towel (Carnival provides them)

Goodie baskets are provided that include: Toothpaste samples, pepcid and razors

Make sure to let your guests know how much they need to pack. Some of my friends are first time cruisers coming with us, and they keep laughing at me when I tell them to pack at least two outfits per day.

I'm making sure that I pack this stuff separately in my carry-on:

Shoes

Make-up

Since I'm getting married in port, I'll also be carrying this stuff on too:

Favors

CD Programs

Toasting Flutes/Cake Server

Bouquets

The ship does provide a laundry room for self washing (bring change), or you can take advantage of the laundry services the ship offers for a nominal fee (Costs are posted in the rooms). Most ships run specials towards the end of the cruise.

Hope this helps!

I think the biggest thing is to let your guests know what to expect clothing wise.. Its hard to imagine why you would need to change maybe 3 or 4 times in a day.. but you really do. A bunch of my first time cruiser guests thought I was totally out to lunch when I said that... but when they go on vacation they are usually camping! The last time I cruised I did a full grid while packing with a column for each day and a list of activities i might do each day and then what I would wear for each day... It seems a little over the top but its the best way to plan how one pair of shoes can go with x number of outfits. The last thing you want is one of your guests totally excited for the sunshine and only thinking about beachware with one or 2 outfits to wear at night to the dining room.

Another great thing is to have a pre cruise night with your guests just to make sure everyone has their documents distributed by your travel agent. If you did book with a travel agent you could even talk to them about having a cruise night at the agency for everyone to pick up their documents there at the same time. That way it's easier for them to go through the docs once with everyone instead of everyone coming in at different times all asking the same questions. Having a group meeting before lets everyone ask questions and listen to everyone elses q and a's.
