Hotel stay in Mobile

MUNFORD

Recommended Posts

The hotels near the port are generally nicer ones. Depending on your type of transportation, you would probably prefer motels at the Spanish Fort exit from I 10 or, closer to the airport, chains along I 65 locally known as the Beltline. Both areas have restaurants and shopping close by.

Most of the downtown hotels are a little pricey. There is a new Hampton Inn though on Royal St. Only a few blocks from the cruise terminal (I wouldn't recommend trying to walk). It is across the street from my office and opened this year so everything in it is new. The higher floors should have a view of the terminal. They do have their own parking lot and offer a Carnival Cruise package including free parking.

I've had difficulty finding the "right" hotel for our (group of 6) Holiday cruise. While we would prefer a park/cruise package, needing 2 hotel rooms bumps the cost up! Any suggestions for a relatively inexpensive hotel just north of Mobile? (We will be coming from the North on I-65.) We don't need anything fancy and we won't get to Mobile until 10 PM the evening before the cruise -- but we do want to be in a "good" area!! Thanks!!

Saraland is just north of Mobile. You actually can't really tell you are changing cities as the whole area is built up. It is a good safe area and has several hotel chains. Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Days Inn, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express are all fairly new and are just off I-65. They should be cheaper since it is only beginning to be really built up in that area and you still have a 20 -30 minute drive to reach the business area of Mobile. Right now there is a Walmart plus a few smaller stores and a couple of restaurants.

The Poarch Creek Indians have a new "casino" in Atmore, about an hour north of Mobile right off I-65. You can't miss their ten story hotel sticking up out of the corn fields!! They have a Best Western there. You could try your luck before your cruise. I haven't been there yet, but I guess what they have are video bingo machines that I hear are so close to a regular slot machine that you can hardly tell the difference. No table games though.
