It depends on how many days the cruise is. Typically, the first formal night is the first " fun day at sea" and the second to last night on the ship if your cruise is 7 nights. Any cruises that are less than 7 days will only have one formal night, being the the first "fun day at sea".

Carnival does not have formal nights anymore. It's called ELEGANT night and it would be the first fun day at sea for a 4 day trip.
