H.S. Senior Spring Break--No Way
Fair enough, but the situation will be similar on most mass-market cruise lines. The children/teen program are for 17 and younger; they rarely allow any exceptions to the rules; 17 and younger are usually not allowed in certain venues in the evening (or at all depending, such as staying in the casino vs walking through to get somewhere). You will need to do some serious checking to find a ship that will allow your 17-y/o into the adults-only venues or that will allow your 18-y/o into the teen lounge/disco.

But they will be allowed to spend time together (and you will be able to spend time as a family) in most areas of the ship. There is no reason they wouldn't be able to hang out together as they always have.

Yes, I will have to do some research. I know on both Costa and MSC the teens were allowed in the disco, just not allowed to drink. In fact on MSC the 18 year olds were allowed to drink. They were however both very strict about the 18 year old age in the Casino.

I don't recall NCL being that strict either. They certainly didn't have a 1 AM curfew but this could have changed.

No Flaming me please but we live in Quebec. The legal drinking age is 18, the bars close at 3 AM. I can bring my 17 into a bar, she just can't drink there. Just a different cultural norm.

That's what these boards are for, allowing us to research before travelling and make sure we choose a cruise that suits are need.

I think the cultural norm on a ship for under age kids is going to be far from what you and your family are use to. The rules are in place to protect all people on there ships so they take the middle of the road on what norm is.
Maybe the Aduts should spend less time in the clubs and more time with there family when they bring them on these cruise ships.
U are correct, however reality says some folks will always use the ships facilities as a 'dump the responsibility' on the cruiseline opportunity - not most but some and because the kids know they aren't really wanted, they usually are the problem kids. Of course they are in contact also with the 'I am important' ones whose parents failed to teach them humility, obedience & common respect & manners together with those parents who can't fathom their child causing any trouble no matter what they were doing & u then have even a bigger problem onboard for the staff to deal with... I shld think it is a most unpleasant & usually thankless task!

I have sympathy for the cruiselines trying to please everyone & to make the cruise experience a reasonably quiet, activity filled & pleasant experience for all..

Oh by the way, u said u can't send some kids to their rooms and let others stay out late - I disagree with that - yes u can at home or on a cruise!
The rules are accepted by their parents when they book the cruise - it is not up to the children anyway!

Have happy cruisin'!
