Drink costs

the pricing policy is very strange - stella in the bar £2.20 pint, others as UK pub prices but for some reason wine is v expensive - approx from £14 per bottle in dining room. Gin for your room is £11/litre and is 47% proof!!! other spirits similar. BUT soft drinks/mixers/slimline are 75p/150ml, sprite is £1.10/330ml. when ashore we did not bring back spirits but diet tonic/coke etc. many passengers went straight t supermarkets to clear shelves of tonic etc. picked up 5l wines boxes in cape town and NZ. to be fair to P&O, compared to some US cruise line, never an issue on bringing any booze on board. enjoy, we did!

Thanks Devondel , I just had a note from P and O which confirms pretty well what you said. Measure of spirit (gin ,whiskey etc) at £2.00, Carlsberg £1.95. But a glass of house wine (175ml) is £2.35 better value seems to be 1/4 bottle at £2.70 The costs of reasonable wine seem a bit pricey so it all seems a bit odd. I suppose also they add on the 15%. Is bottle of wine at table from £14.00 (what type of wine?)

No they don't - wine even delivered to your cabin is the same price, around £14-20 A BOTTLE, but they DO let you take onboard your own wine - unlike all other cruiselines FOR CABIN CONSUMPTION...as mentioned in another thread, I take on a winebox and it stores in the fridge, as we have a balcony cabin and its nice to sit out and enjoy the balcony and views with a glass of wine in the late afternoon before getting ready for dinner.

P&O don't add 15% to all drink prices. The price you see is the price you pay. :)

Devondel , one other question do they let you buy bottle of spirits at low cost and use it in your cabin, unlike most cruise lines which only let you have it when you disembark?

Regards

You can buy spirits cheap for in cabin consumption. An example is a 1 Litre bottle of Gordon's or Beafeater Gin for £10. They also do a deal of 12 for the price of 10 on mixers. All of this can be requested from your cabin steward when he introduces himself to you on emabarkation day. Otherwise you can fill out a chitty which he/she will fulfil for you.

I hope that helps.

I have sailed with P&O before but never knew you could buy spirits cheap for cabin consumption.

Can anyone remember what spirits are available...we are normally Rum/Bacardi drinkers and would be glad to buy from the steward if available

Mis Heli,

Bacardi is available for in cabin consumption and costs about £11/litre with offers towards the end of the cruise with bottles as cheap as £8.

Other spirits can be as low as £6:50 - Smirnoff Red 1L.

Yes its fine in moderation. I packed 2 x 1litre cartons of white wine in my case and that was ok.

Obviously someone struggling up the gangplank with cases of wine/beer may be questioned, but in moderation no problems. Also, I took a small bottle of lemonade to go with room service orange juice, as they only sell mixer tins those little ones like tonic tins for 75p each.

In your cabin there's an info book - long, thin, greeny-blue, ring binder. In the section called something like "tickle your palate" is a price list of everything that's available in drinks and tobacco sales. There's also a sales desk somewhere ????? (perhaps outside the theatre on Ventura) with printed lists and order forms. Your cabin steward should have put some order forms behind the kettle. These you fill in, hand to him and he sends a runner. Frequently back within the hour :D

would anyone be able to tell me how much cigarettes are on board ? can you buy in 200's or single packs ?

I think you can get single packs from the bars or a carton from your cabin steward. Superkings were about £25.00 a carton.
