El Yunque - Better in AM or PM

Hi,

Would like to know is if it's too hot in the afternoon to enjoy El Yunque?

We were originally thinking of leaving for El Yunque at 8am and returning at 1pm so that we could check in on the ship (want to make specialty restaurant reservations, etc.) and then head out to Old SJ. However, if it takes an hour to get there, we would arrive at El Yunque at 9ish and have to leave at 11:30ish. However, from reading the various posts on this board, that doesn't seem to be enough time.

If we went to Old SJ in the am, checked in on the ship by 1 and head out to El Yunque at 2, would that work?

TIA...

It's not that it's too hot in the afternoon, since the majority of what you'll be doing will be in the shade of the rainforest. It's that there's a greater chance that it will rain in the rainforest in the afternoon than in the morning. Especially in the summer.

If it gets cloudy, there go all those spectacular views from the peak.

Thank you, Ray. Would it matter much that we're going in mid-May, or is the threat of rain the same?
