First time sailing Carnival...

Recommended Posts

This is our first Carnival cruise. We will be sailing the Fantasy, May 9. Yep we jumped on the chance for the Eastern itinerary.

Any hints of things to see and do on the ship? I heard she is just out of rehab so we are excited about that.

Do they have scones in the afternoon? This is my favorite cruise treat. LOL.

Are formal nights extremely formal? This is a last minute get away and I really don't feel like getting super fancy. Should I just avoid the dining room on formal nights?

Does anyone know any fun/good things to do in Nassua and Freeport? These are new ports for us.

Thanks all. :)

I have three friends on the Fantasy right now. Formal nights have gotten to where they don't seem to be as formal as they were. As for things to do in Nassua, check out the Atlantis Resort. It is truly unbelievable and amazingly beautiful. You can also try Senor Frog's, we have been to a couple of their locations including Nassua. We have always had a great time. Good Luck!

On formal nights on most cruise lines they have really gotten away from expremely formal. A suit should do it well. If you wish to avoid the dining room on formal nights that is up to you. They have a really good menu on those nights though. On Carnival they have a buffett that serves dinner.

In Nassau take the pirate tour. It gives a good tour of the island, New Providence Island, and includes entrance to the pirate museum.

On Grand Bahama Island, port city of Freeport, take a tour of the island. Then the tour will let you off at The Lucyan Market. You can go to the market and/or go across the street to the Isle of Capri Casino. It is air conditioned. When I took a cruise with Freeport as a port-of-call I met quite a few people from my ship at the Isle of Capri.

On sea days there will be a high tea and yes, they do serve scones. The tea is not very well publicized, but will be listed in the Capers. It is usually at 3:00 in the afternoon. Some type of classical music, usually a quartet and really delicious finger sandwiches, pastries, and of course, tea! One of my favorite things to do on sea days. Enjoy your cruise.

Thanks for this information! We are sailing May 30, and I will definitely find this relaxing....

formal nights are what you make of it. if you wear a sundress, or party dress, you are fine. some men don't wear suits but may where a dress shirt and tie. they will be taking pictures everywhere and it is fun to see all the people dressed up. lots of food options, room service, buffett, grill, pizza 24 hours, fish and chipsk sushi. watch the capers for the times. i will say that aroung 3 or 4 they have things to make sundays and then tea time. alot of people aren't aware of this. in nassau you can take a taxi to the atlantis and wall around the hotel and see parts of the aquarium inside and then walk outside and see some of the fish from the top side. this is free. if you want a complete tour of the pools and stuff you can book it from the hotel or ccl for around $45 but we never have since you can see a good bit without it. it is really pretty.

I don't remember if they serve scones or not. But, I do know that the formal nights aren't as formal as they used to be. There are many who wear their Sunday best on these days. As for Nassau and Freeport, if you click on the link to my Sensation review you can see what I did in these ports. There are pictures as well. The link's in my signature.:)

You might just have to lower your expectations. Carnival is much more laid back and relaxed cruise experience than what you are aparently used too judging by your questions. Just go with the flow and you will have a great trip. The rehabs on the Fantasy are very will done. The pool area is oustanding, as is the slide and adults only area. No such thing as a formal night. Just a night where most dress a little better than on other nights. Still some dress to the 9's and some dress the same (jeans, shorts, etc.). It is their choice, it is a vacation.
