joan24 Posted December 9, 2004 #1 Share Posted December 9, 2004 Has anyone been to St. Maarten on any of the Grand class ships? We've been there on the Grand and we tendered in. Do the larger ships still tender in or do they dock? We tendered in to the end of town and just walked. Are there taxis at the pier? Thanks for any information. Host Caroline Posted December 9, 2004 #2 Share Posted December 9, 2004 When we were in St Maarten in '01 on the Grand we docked at the new pier which is a wonderful facility... they have a water taxi to downtown and Bobby's Marina (nearby) that you can use all day for $5 per person.. There are also taxis at the end of the pier if you need one. There some some shops there, great place to pick up some soft drinks, snacks etc. and a phone/internet center upstairs near Diamonds International (I think -- ask they will tell you) where you can get a U.S. phone card to use for 1/2 hour for about $10-12... a lot less than onboard ship.. It's air conditioned, they ahve soft drinks etc. They also have internet access there... It's new this year .. we used it in September and will again next year. They were completing "redoing" Front St. which is the main street in downtown Philipsburg in Sept. In fact it was nearly impossible to navigate with the paving, planting palm trees etc.. The waterfront is really nice now with lots of places to rent beach chairs, beach bars.
