Question for recent Splendor cruisers

And no...it is NOT about the new itin! :D

My husband is SERIOUSLY bothered by second hand smoke -- when I was on Paradise last year, it smelled like an ashtray -- I don't really mind it all that much because I'm a reformed smoker so I figure it's my penance for years of forcing other people to suffer from MY second hand smoke, but my husband really has a hard time tolerating it.

Is it a real issue on Splendor or just in the lounges?

Thanks....

Hey, this was my observation. I was on the 4/26 sailing, so I had more FUN SEA DAYS :p than most. The Piano Bar was pretty bad, so I avoided that, the casino just smelled like an ashtray. I, too, am a reformed smoker, 7 months this week, so I really just wanted to stay away from those areas due to the fact that I didn't want the old urge to hit me any harder than it does. All in all, it wasn't too bad.

This happens to be something that really bothers me as well.

To each their own...but I happen to live in a state that has all but banned smoking...so I'm not used to second hand smoke in any public places... Whenever I happen to visit local Indian Casinos (where smoking is allowed) or travel to other states where it is allowed, my eyes start to burn, my throat starts to hurt, I start to develop a cough...it is like a bad allergic reaction. I remember a time before the public smoking ban where this stuff didn't bother me as much...but now it seems almost unbearable.

I realize it is my own cross to bear...I just hope it doesn't detract too much from the experience. Perhaps after a couple of days I will just start to adjust to it, as I did before...

Good news for you! As a smoker, there are very limited places where you can smoke OUTSIDE! This makes little sense to me, but it is true. There seem to more places INSIDE to smoke than there is outside. No smoking on the Lido deck at all. Casino, sports bar and piano bar should be avoided. The Piano Bar was even too smokey for me.

If I were you, I would go on Celebrity or one of the cruise lines that do not allow smoking in cabins or on the balcony, JMHO.

As others have said, the casino, sports bar and piano bar are pretty bad. We wouldn't spend any time in the casino anyway - but had to walk through there quite a bit. The sports bar looked like a "sports bar" but since there was no ESPN or Fox Sports, the only TV sports offering was what was on TNT, so didn't spend any time there either. We went to the piano bar once and it was very smoky so we left.

We didn't smell smoke at all in our cabin or on the balcony, but probably nobody around us smoked.

Thanks for the feedback! We really wanted to try the Splendor -- and we did do a little planning to avoid the smoke from other cabins by booking an inside spa cabin since they don't allow smoking at all in that area.

Seriously, I have ZERO problem with other people smoking - probably because I did it for so long! But it just bothers Brian so I figured I'd get some feedback on places to avoid -- We wouldn't be spending a lot of time at the sports bar (unless there happens to be a USC game during the cruise and if they're only playing TNT, probably not likely!) or the casino so no problem there -- I might have to make him tolerate it for just a bit so I can see Ron - I've heard too many good things to pass that up completely :D
