hisrinee Posted May 19, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 19, 2009 We are in Carnival Spirit and will be in Juneau on July4th. We are trying to see if anyone can point us to where the July 4th celeberations will be... or any links. Thanks!
tee_harbor Posted May 20, 2009 #2 Share Posted May 20, 2009 I don't know if the schedule's been announced, but the general schedule every year is for the parade to snake through downtown Juneau, then it all packs up and heads over to Douglas Island, where the hearty souls do the whole thing over again. The parade starts at 8-9? Since it goes in a loop, if you miss part, you can find the end and see it. You do not want to miss the local Filipino community's dance troop with everyone dressed like giant birds, or the Native tribe's float. Because it's the 50th anniversary year, we expect even more hoo-hah. We don't really have marching bands, or horses, but there's a ragtag kazoo band and lots of kids on bikes, and there's still candy tossed. Over in Douglas, there's soap box derby races, and all sorts of events and food on Sandy Beach. The only problem for tourists is, there's no bus running on the holiday, but it's a nice healthy walk from Juneau if you're in decent shape. The fireworks are at midnight, when most ships have left. Sometimes a captain will take it slow out of the harbor to catch some of the view.
