Wyndam day pass?

Has anyone else noticed the price of excursions skyrocketing these past few years, i really thought with the economy they would of been dropping. I still remember my first cruise in the 90's the average excursion cost around 20 dollars or so and the more expensive ones we like 60 to 70, now they are out of controll, im not cheap by any means i just think if you have a family and want to get a day pass at somethin like atlantis its out of controll........

I don't see that.. especially not the independent vendors, they have all kept their prices in check. Beach Passes now include food vouchers because too many cruisers were using the hotel beaches and pools and not spending a dime at the concessions or casinos.

Plopping down with your family at a hotel resort with a 12 pack of beers, cooler full of goodies and using chairs, towels, lifeguards etc.. is just not acceptable anymore. I think the hotels are right in charging a small fee.-

$30 - 40 is a good deal when it includes food.

The only tours that are out of control in pricing are the big boys.. of which Atlantis is KING. $110 base price for a small water park is ridiculous. Most US parks cost 1/3 of that and have more to offer.

They charge it because they can. Whatever the market will bear.

On RCI it costs you $165 pp to go to Atlantis with all priviledges. This does include transportation back and forth and lunch but still that is steep.

yes, you pay an additional $55 for a $8 r/t transport, and a $10 lunch. You do the math. Atlantis is making out like a bandit.

It really is crazy. We are going though. Taking 16 yo daughter on this cruise and this is what she wants. She has to help pay though. lol We have a room booked with CS and still considering booking it with RCI. I have until the day the cruise leaves to cancel the room at CS. Once you add the transportation and the lunch it is close to the same amount.

I thought to take a taxi was $5 pp not $8. Has it gone up?

We are doing B2B on the Monarch so on the first one we are going to Atlantis and probably going to head to Wyndham for the second one. You did say the Wyndham is closing on August 17, right? We will be there on the 15th.

The Wyndham looks like a great place to spend a day, but I have a couple of questions...

First, I'm a little concerned about weather, since we'll be there December 19. Am I correct in assuming that we can simply show up at the Wyndham and request day passes, or do we have to book in advance?

How far is it from the cruise ships and how do we get there? How long does it take in each direction?

If we were to book a room instead, would food be included?

Yes, you can simply show up and request a day pass. At this time, they are $40 pp and include a buffet lunch.

The wyndham is about 5 miles from the port. you can take a cab for about $10 for 2 ppl. $3 for each add'l .. or you can take the #10 jitney from downtown for $1.25 pp.

The ride takes about 12 -15 minutes.

If we were to book a room instead, would food be included?

No, food and drink is not included in a room rate, but it's sister property next door, the sheraton, has a day rate for a room that includes food.

See above

scubagirrl, I hate to be a bother but you seem to be the expert. I will be in Freeport on Sept. 1 and Nassau on Sept. 2. I am so disheartened to hear the Wyndham will be closed as I was so looking forward to going. Is this the only resort that will be closed or can I expect much of the same throughout the island? I really don't want to do Atlantis as it seems just way too overpriced. What are other options?

I think she said that the Sheraton will still be open. It is right beside of the Wyndham. I am sure she will chime in. She is great. I really like that she is an expert. It helps when making plans. 3 Cheers for Scubagirl.:D

Thank you.. and yes.. I'm here to chime in. Although wyndham is closed, the sheraton next door is open and has 3 lovely pools and a terrific beach.

I think the day pass is actually a day room for $99. (2 adults 2 kids).

Other options if you don't have young kids is Breezes for $55 all inclusive with a coupon from the local map.

British Colonial Hilton - which is $40 with lunch.. but i'm not sure of the timing of the nearby dredging.

There's also private island beaches like Blackbeards cay or Blue Lagoon Island. These start around $30 - $45.

This time of year lots of thing will be on limited hours and some will be closed. Last year occupancy levels were in the teens for most hotels, and business just can't stay open with full schedules under those circumstances.

Regardless, you will have a wonderful time.

Thanks scuba. The Sheraton sounds affordable for the 4 of us going. I'll look into it more. Now, just because I keep getting good and confused, we are talking about Nassau, right?

Nassau.. yes. The Sheraton is located on Cable Beach at Port Nassau.

Scubagirl, I want to say again your advice is appreciated. That other thread has turned a bit nasty for you. I know that has to be a pain. For what it counts you advice has really helped me in determining our tentative plans.

We look forward to going to the Wyndham. I know I will probably have 2 dozen more questions for you before it is over with. :)
