Craps Players Step Inside!

Wow, actually one of my better casino trips was on the Dream. Made decent money on the craps table.

I will be on the Magic in November... I'll be more than glad to give a casino review when I get back, but I assume the casino is laid out pretty much the same as the Dream since they are sister ships. I liked the layout. At the time the Dream was the only ship to have a non-smoking section to the casino. Now they all do, but I liked being able to play without the smoke. I have been in enough casinos where I had to deal with the smoking, so it was a nice change.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO sailor_jimc: Will be looking forward to your casino review. I thought the casino was somewhat on the small side. Don't know the actual space allowance for the Dream Class ships, but, thought the Triumph Class ships had a larger casino.

I have not been on the Triumph but have been on the Victory twice. To be honest I am not sure the Victory casino is any larger. They are just laid out differently. I like the Conquest class ships casino is laid out. I also like the Conquests craps table. It was VERY good to me in August.. in two nights I managed to pull an extra $2300 off that table. Everything just clicked. Hopefully the Magic's table will be nice also. I will certainly let you know when I get back.

Thanks for the reply. I have been eager to hear that there was indeed a craps table onboard! Since you had one on Dream, Im confident about the sister ship, Magic. But I had seen several casino pictures and no dice table, so was beginning to get nervous. Was also afraid I might find one of those dreaded electronic ones.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO MrCo9: It may have been a 4+ hour roll, however, were players making hardway bets and prop bets? I don't know, I wasn't there, just heard about it a few hours after it happened as I was working at a Las Vegas Boyd property later that day. If so this could have led to the 4+ hour roll because it would have taken longer to pay out the prop bets and hardway bets. If players were just making Pass Line, Come, Don't Pass and Don't Come bets with odds the payouts would have taken less time. Really???? I've only been dealing and supervising on Las Vegas craps tables for 14 years, really didn't need you telling me that prop bets can slow a game down. BUT, they sure can make a casino a LOT of $$, that is why a good stickman (From the casino's point of view), not only knows the payouts, but they SELL the prop box at EVERY opportunity. Or did the shooter keep rolling numbers for that time defying what the odds would be for a seven to come up? Having been the shooter when a few good rolls came up from personal experience when you had lots of players making prop bets and hardway bets that slowed the game down.
A good dealer will have the prop box payouts ready to go after they are done paying the place bets or line on teir side of the table. Makes te game go faster.

Not sure about the other players, but the shooter at the Borgata was a 2nd time player. Started with $100 and was pretty happy with winning less than $5,000.

  • 3 weeks later...

I look forward to playing craps on cruises because it's usually the same crowd of people playing all week - mostly friendly and fun-loving people!

Encountered a nasty guy once who snapped at me when I nicely asked if he was playing or watching (no chips in front of him) "they're all on the table!!!" "Not for long if you treat lady luck (me) that way..." and I moved to a spot on the other end of the table. Nicer guys there.:) And yes, the nasty guy was busted shortly thereafter and gone.

I may play with $5 chips, but I still have fun. Love watching people play with colored chips I have NO idea what they're worth...I don't wanna know!

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO wldflr: Playing craps is fun. I enjoy playing because the dealers don't have a lot to do with the outcome such as rolling a ball as in Roulette, or dealing the cards as in almost any card game. It is fun watching the dice roll and rooting for your numbers to come up. Yes, there are some people that play that are nasty to others, but, that happens in all casino games and even in sports games. The nicer players usually outnumber the nasty players.

It does not matter what size your bets are. Your bets mean as much to you as someone betting in higher denominations mean to them. Some higher bettors may even make a bet for you if, as the shooter you win some money for them, I know I do. And I am not considered a high roller.

For your information: White Chips are usually $1. I have also seen $1 chips in blue and purple. Red chips are worth $5. Green chips are worth $25. Black Chips are worth $100. Purple Chips are worth $500. Yellow Chips are worth $1,000. Brown Chips are $5,000.

Casino Player,

So you think dealers have a lot to do with the outcome in Roulette? Please enlighten me on that I am interested to know how. Thanks, Teddy

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Trnkk: The dealer has a lot to do with the outcome in Roulette. The way they spin the ball to go around the outside of the wheel determines outcomes. Did you ever notice that certain dealers will spin the ball one way and another will spin the ball another way and different outcomes would occur. Certain dealers would get a hot number coming up all out of proportion of randomness. Many players that play Roulette make bets on how the dealer spins the ball and affects the outcome of the roll which is why certain "hot" numbers will come up.

No it doesn't. The way the wheel is designed the outcomes are random. Wheels have more to do with it than the dealer. Wheels and dealers have been clocked in the past so the numbers are monitored to make sure that the randomness is preserved. Do you really think a casino would let a player gain an advantage like that?

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO scott4020: Maybe the outcomes are random and maybe not. I have noticed that at times wheels may have a bias which causes certain numbers to come up out of proportion to randomness.

However, my answer may have been misunderstood. Wheel biases aside, who has more control over an outcome of a game of chance: a player making a random roll of dice or a trained dealer rolling a ball around a wheel?

By far the craps shooter.

I agree, some of us can set the dice and not be "so random".

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO cruzincurt: You could set the dice, but, that doesn't necessarily take the randomness out of the game of craps. A player would need to have the perfect roll. Very few could actually do it.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO cruincurt: Besides needing a perfect roll you are also rolling the dice over the craps table. There are elements that randomize the roll. The roll itself, the bounce, hitting against the wall, hitting against chips or money thrown on the table all help to randomize the roll.

No doubt player what you are saying is true. Casinos don't design games that give players the advantage. The rule that you have to hit the wall and the surface of that wall makes setting very difficult. I'm sure there are those who could do it but they are rare animals and can be blacklisted from casinos.

But on the same token there are elements of the roulette wheel that introduce the same randomness into the game and with the added number tracking by the casino dealer bias is totally eliminated.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO scott4020: There are no elements on the roulette wheel to randomize the game. Yet, you have a dealer that will consistently hit the same area when the wheel is finished it's spin. Setting is not that hard to do Scott. It is getting the desired result that is difficult. I have had many long rolls, however, I don't consider myself a dice controller. I've also had many short rolls too.

IMO, if setting the dice in an attempt to alter the outcome actually works "sometimes", then the craps results are not random. That's why the back of the wall has bumps to try to "randomize" the throw. But the probabilities of the numbers coming up based on the dots does not change.

The only truly random event in the casino is the RNG in the slot machines. And even then, depending on the software routine, they have been found not to be truly random.

On setting the dice and the randomness of craps, I figure if you set the dice, flop them at the base of the back wall at the same location each and every throw, then you eliminate some of the randomness. Granted not all, but some if your good. The person that rolls the dice the length of the table as no control of the outcome.

As for Roulette. If the dealer (a good dealer) spins the wheel at the same speed every and spins the ball at the same speed every time, he does have the ability to land in the same 8 number zone each and every spin (if he or she wishes to do so). So the an experienced dealer can control the game.

This is just my opinion from my observations and experience.

I'm going with trained dealer. My best friend that used to deal in Las Vegas and is now back in AC as a supervisor was hired to demonstrate a new wheelead at a trade show and I watched him land the ball 9 rolls out of 10 in a 6 number section of the wheel for 30 minutes. He can not make it land on red or Black, odd or even, high or low, but if you were to take 6 consecutive numbers on the wheel 00, 1, 13, 36, 24 and 3 he could make te ball land on one of those numbers 9 times out of 10. He swore e'd never do it on a live game and I believe him, but I did see im do it on a demonstration game.

Have any of you ever won big with this outrageously impossible bet?

I have rolled 4 points three times while having $5 (for me) and $1 (for the dealers) on the Fire Bet. Only one time did I come out on the 5th point and I forgot to lay against it. It was a point of 4 and I probably would have laid $400 against it as rolling the 4 would have gotten me $1250, laying it for $400 (All I ad in the rail at the time) would have won me an additional $190 ($400/2 less $10 vig).

Last night at Caesars Palace someone rolled all 6 points with 5 people on the Fire Bet including the shooter. 2 people had $5 each on it, 2 had $10 and one person had $3 on it. Even with the $33,000 payoff the casino probably still made $$ with the bet as it's been a few months since all 6 numbers rolled when someone had a bet on it.

Do any of the cruise lines' tables allow the fire bet?

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Dread Pirate Roberts: I have never seen a Fire Bet on a cruise ship. I never make this bet because it is considered a sucker bet. You will lose it many more times than you would win.
