ms simba Posted June 5, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2009 I have made a table comparing a rental car with the Carnival shuttle. I am leaning towards the shuttle as both my sister and I are handicapped. I have a fused ankle from arthritis. Therefore, walking a lot and standing for a long time is troublesome to me (wheelchair and/or scooter on ship) That is why I have put the physical exercise in red type. Please look at the table and see if I have it correct. Thanks! Renting a car versus Carnival Shuttle after cruise Renting a car and Driving to MCO Taking Carnival Shuttle to MCO Cost - $46.51 plus gas fill up later (cost?). So $50+ Cost - $70 plus tip Have luggage brought down to holding area Same Wait for debarkation call Same Walk down, pick up luggage, walk through customs Same Call for rental car shuttle / wait for it to arrive Board Carnival shuttle (help with luggage) Leave sister behind with luggage Not necessary Get on rental car shuttle and go to rental area Not necessary Get off shuttle and walk to rental counter Not necessary Wait in line to get rental car paperwork done Not necessary Walk out to rental cars and pick one Not necessary Drive to booth, wait in line Not necessary Drive back to Port Canaveral Not necessary Load luggage into trunk Not necessary Drive to MCO airport and go to gas station Not necessary (Shuttle driver drives to MCO) Fill tank with gas and get receipt Not necessary Drive back to AirTran departing area Not necessary Unload luggage (AirTran Sky Cap?), drop-off sister Shuttle driver unloads luggage. AirTran Sky Cap takes it. Drive to rental car drop-off, give receipt Not necessary Walk back to AirTran, meet sister Not necessary Walk to security line and wait Same Walk to MCO shuttle and take to the AirTran side Same Walk to AirTran boarding gate Same
yogi2929 Posted June 5, 2009 #2 Share Posted June 5, 2009 Looks like you haven't forgotten anything. The shuttle seems to be the best alternative. JUst throwing something else into the mix---Have you checked out the cost of a taxi/nonCarnival shuttle/limo service instead of the Carnival Shuttle? Then you would have little to no waiting. travelntreats Posted June 5, 2009 #3 Share Posted June 5, 2009 Wow... is all I can say.... such details over a difference of $20.00 ??? Take the shuttle or possibly another means of transfer i.e. taxi or shuttle service... stress free and no worries about dealing with traffic, unfamiliar areas when driving.... PRICELESS ! ms simba Posted June 5, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted June 5, 2009 I do these things (tables, etc) to compare what will be easier or cheaper for me. I am a visual person so I like to have it sitting in front of me. Prior to making the table, I thought it would be better to rent a car. Now I see that it would be a LOT easier for me and my sister to take the shuttle. By the way, I tried to delete this post as the table did not come out correctly. I couldn't find how I could delete it. Any Help? This is what the table should have looked like - see attachment
