Sailing away from Seattle...

it's a beautiful, warm day in Seatte and we are now off on our adventure! Pack shorts and a tshirt!

I've already gathered a bunch of info for all of you!

and I will compose a big post off line and then copy and past..probably tomorrow.

Also, everything was delivered perfectly...egg crate ON THE BED, dining assignment perfect..table for 2, more later on all the specific details...

and one correction i was typing the post above in hurry I should of said thank you to PVMeistral from the May 14th sailing about her info on Westin transfer...all went perfectly!

BTW, Luigi is the Maitre D and just came onboard...

I've sailed with him 8 times, so its like seeing an old friend.

Roberta is BOTH Captains Circle and FCC, she's up next on my checklist of things to do....

ciao for now!

Can this be the same Luigi that was headwaiter on the Pacific in 2004?

As for Roberta, you can find out immediately if you've qualified for the Captain's luncheon.

What a difference your experience has been. I am so pleased that Princess got their act together. I guess it was the fact that we were the first ones of the season. I'm still a little miffed though that Princess has never apologized, but implied it was our error (even though they reimbursed the cab fare). I plan to write a letter... then I can let it go. As our new Kiwi friends from the cruise say: "build a bridge and get over it!" :D

I'll be here every day reliving the cruise through you while I work on my pictures that I'm putting into a DVD.

Thank you for your time and effort!

Have a great time on Pacific Princess. My DH and I just got off this morning. We had an awesome cruise with great weather! Just a bit of rain in Seward.

Luigi was on our cruise and he is wonderful. Also the head chef, Thomas, is fun. We did Chef's Table with several other folks from CC roll call. Don't miss their cooking demonstration on the last sea day. Luigi loves pepper!

Hope you get Joel as your waiter. He is wonderful.

Hi Everyone…

WOO HOO! My mom WON a massage in the spa for the embarkation drawing.!!!!!!

I’m not sure really where to begin, but I thought I would start sharing some of the

Info that was in our cabin….as we had HUGE informational packet…much more than I have had in cruises past…..which I really like…I know everyday what my scholarship classes, boutique sales, lectures, spa events…it makes it much easier to plan your

Laziness!!!!hahahahhahahhaha!

Shorex…

There are few tours that are being offered that are new and not online

Or in the official booklet at least I’m assuming that since this flyer in front of me says UNPUBLISHED Tours

 • Kodiak Wildlife Cruise 4 hours 299 per person

 • Day in Anchorage … 8 hours 99 per person

 • 3. Juneau Jeep adventure 4 hours 169 per person

**sold by shorex office BUT its called Alaska Fresh Ketch ..it’s a dinner of 8 shipped to your home for 294.00

If you are interested in specific details ..let me know

Our shorex tickets were in our cabin upon arrival, we double checked them and

Everything was correct!

Port Info…all port flyer/handout info is your cabin on arrival so you don’t have to wait until your patter arrives the night before to do your homework.

WIFI …official wifi locations are Atrium, Casino Bar, Internet Café, Card Room, Panorama Buffet, Sterling Steakhouse and Sabatinis…

I have access in cabin 7111. I was told that it is not official that suites have WIFI

BUT it usually does work. remember to turn of the anti fishing and pop up blocker

Regarding Internet costs..they haven’t changed since I last took pictures of the

Posted information. If you would like to see those pictures, they are on our personal

Travel journal website. Just go into the link at the bottom of the page, then Karen’s Cruise Corner and scroll down for Star Princess. The albums are labeled for your convenience. you will see internet café. when the pictures fully load you can click on them

To magnify even more.

Spa and Exercise…I’m still researching this for you…but this what I have so

Far…yoga, tai chi and pilates classes cost $12.00 …other exercise classes that use the ball and stretch classes are free. Treadmills do not have tv’s. Personal Training one session is 85 and 3 are 209

In the very front of the spa area is their private deck area…it has a small Jacuzzi bath which is actually now a called mineral pool. Not for lap swimming but soaking. This area is for a day pass for 15USD or cruise pass for 140USD..if you have a inside cabin

I would recommend this! Pricing from my Star Princess photos has gone up about 10-20 dollars …AT MOST!!!!

Spoke with Roberta …she is not the Roberta that I knew of about 7 years ago, which

I’m quite pleased about…This Roberta is a real sweetheart! BTW, Sylvain is now

On the Tahitian!...which if the prices dumps enough we will be doing Aug 30th..

Anyway..she said that it looks like we made the Captains Lunch cut..but

she’s still number crunching….the highest number on days right now is over 400!!!

I thought I got rid of all you people in the Amazon!!!!!

Hahahahaahhahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahhahaahhaahah

So, for the Elites out there this info is for you…

Our Welcome letter was in the cabin…

Wine tasting..you are given an invite you present that AND your card for your entrance

Tender …go straight to the tender area and just flash your card, you don’t

Need a special pass

Cabin Steward switches the mini bar set up to anything you want NOT room service

My extra 25USD credit for over 20 cruises was in the cabin…I stopped by the

Pursers desk to double check all credits on both our accounts were correctly

posted and they were!

Dinner tonight was the regular sailaway dinner….pina colada soup, mushroom soup

and prime rib..are our favorites…tomorrow night is our 1st formal…

lobster thermidor has returned in the last couple of months…also limoncello will definitely be on Italian night…

for those of you that haven’t seen the video on how limoncello is made

if you go to our website…go into the journal section and then something to quench your thirst..you will see limoncello…it’s a real treat to watch so enjoy…

it was such a fun “reunion” with several of the headwaiters and we got to play

catch up....Luigi came over and we confirmed how we will do my order…

and we were able to get me out of dinner within 40 minutes tonight.

One of the headwaiters said they only received a couple of official letters with dining requests due to medical needs. Though hundreds of people demanded 1st seating because

Of medical reasons.

IF you do have specific medical reasons for your dining request it is truly is in your

Best interest to contact special services and provide a note from your doctor.

and then ask for confirmation it was received. Your needs are taken very seriously

in accommodating them if they know in advance!!!!!! When I sat down to confirm

our table for 2, it was with 2 headwaiters I had never met, they looked at my

card..and said oh, Ms. Where2next we received an email about your requests and everything is taken care of! Whoa! Exhale for me!

BTW, Maitre D is Luigi Pascale….Luigi Moretti is still on the Star Princess…(they think) Fernando is the Asst. Maitre D..for those of you that have sailed with the Pacific

he was a headwaiter that covered the front of the dining room!

Mini bar costs….

Coke products ..cans..1.95

Bottled water small…2.00

Perrier 2.65

Booze min bottles

Beefeater Gin 4.95

Canadian Club Whisky 4.95

Smirnoff Vodka 4.95

The library is beautiful as usual…and the book exchange just keeps growing. I really think it’s the best at sea, you can find all your games in the library to choose from .

There were quite a bit of Alaska books there, but I would get there EARLY on embarkation day…they are not under lock and key so you can just grab and go and don’t have to wait for crew member to check them out

When and Wear you can eat

Sabatinis 20 per person, check patter hours

Sterlings 15 per person check patter hours

Pool BBQ 11am-6pm…they have veggie burgers and chicken burgers along

With the usually hot dog, wurts, burger options

Panorama Buffet

Continental Breakfast 4am-630am

Breakfast Buffet 630-11

Luncheon Buffet 11:30-2

Sandwhich Bar 2-530pm

Dinner Buffet 530pm-9pm

Bistro9pm-12:30am

Ok, I’m going to wrap this up…my official detective work will begin

Later today!

I hope this helps for now

I have tons more to share about Scholarship at Sea, we have a naturalist onboard

all the cruise and I’ve got info on the SALES upcoming!

Buon Viaggio…

Here’s our website address for internet and spa prices, along with limoncello video

Enjoy..I will be doing a lot of updates when we return!

Maybe I didn't ask, but on the first cruise it appeared they only had hamburgers and hotdogs. I would have loved the other options. I wonder if they limited them because it was so cold and few used the pool area.

Sounds like they are more in the groove now with all the amenities. Thanks for being so thorough in your description.

Hi Karen...

I was waiting for you. Now I can go about my business.

Pretty funny about getting rid of the Elites on the Amazon; guess you couldn't eliminate them all. Only 400? Wish it were that easy. ;)

Luigi Pascale is the guy I know. Extra hug/kiss for me, please.

Looking forward to the rest of your cruise.

That's really interesting Rita, because we had them all on the Amazon cruise.

To Toto…

This is your fairy godmother…:):)

I spoke with your cabin steward Ronald…and yes he will be YOUR cabin

Steward..I gave him your “real” name, but send me an email with your DH’s

He will be looking for you. The Maui Suite is occupied, but he said compared to balcony and other cabins your bedding is MUCH softer..he hasn’t heard anyone complain regarding the suite. He did say Deck 6 does have more vibration than deck 7 or 8.

To Everyone

The cruisecritic party had a pretty good turnout, even those that didn’t post too much still showed up, it was GREAT to put names and faces together, share travel stories and always a joy to receive tips and suggestions from other travellers. We missed a few people, who I was really hoping to connect with and I hope all is well and they were just having a lazy day!!!

Mountain House took a group photo of all of us and he will upload on this

Thread later…

Couple of things to share…one of our cruisecritic members is staying in 6049 which is an obstructed view and they said it was hardly obstructed

Loomi mentioned that she worked out today (you go girl!-we should be more like You in motivation! ) anyway, she was saying that the shower is huge in gym area…as opposed to the curtain cling you might get your cabin..and no one was in there…

I;m listening to Sammi right now do her What to expect lecture on TV

I just love her…she rocks! Really she’s my 2nd favorite than John Lawrence

Totally different styles but both fabulous!

Sammi just covered one of my pet peeves…hugs to her…

The buffet is TO EAT IN, not take a table to view the scenary while people have to sit on floor to eat because people are being inconsiderate…I was on the Celebrity Mercury for a coastal at it was horrific, being were camped out those trying to were balancing there trays while leaning against planter boxes…every single day! UGH!

OMG Sammi just said Skagway has become St. Thomas with Salmon

Rothflmao!!!!!!!!!

Sammi is from Alaska, so she is PASSIONATE about this itinerary and wants to help you become PASSIONATE embrace this lecture!

Scratch what I just said, she just announced she’s leaving the ship in Seward and heading to the Dawn Princess for the World Cruise..she didn’t mention her replacement

I think this is a perfect time to remind everyone..that anything can change from cruise to cruise…what they reported on May 14th is not the same as now, what I’m experiencing could be different next cruise…In the past I’ve had 3 Captains on a 12 day cruise…

Travel is not a exact science..we can do as much research as possible, share as many stories as possible….but “real time” can be totally different so we should always be respectful of each other.

Captain came on at 9am to share with us our day…and we also had a 12 noon report They’ve periodically announced wildlife and we saw dolphins while at the cruisecritic get together….

Today at 2pm is our 1st naturalist lecture..I’ll report more on that later he’s onboard the whole cruise and rangers will be here Ketchikan and glacier bay. Also have info on other lecturers which will give later. Along with port transfer to town info etc etc

Also, if you have the Princess Alaska Planner, it’s 20USD onboard and in the patter And on tv they reference it and where you are and what page to look up to know more…

We actually purchased it in at clearance sale a couple of cruises ago for 5 bucks! So, always keep your eye open when attending sales for futre itineraries you might Embark on….we will have the clearance sale on the last sea day…so there will be stuff from the Med, Amazon, Panama Canal, and very old Tahiti from last season!!!!

Breakfast, each side has an omellete station (where pizza or icecream is served) there were sooooo many options..honestly, i cant imagine you wouldn’t find something to eat..yes, it’s not a 5 star restaurant..

But the food is good…there was apple juice, orange juice, icetea, water

They were pushing a coffee cart around to serve you juices and coffee.

I purchased the coffee card today, for 24.95 for 15 punches..that is cheaper than land coffee places for a 2 shot iced latte. There are no syrups or flavored creamers so if you need that..bring it from home. They do have

Vanilla and chocolate options. I will check out the menu more thoroughly later in the cruise. The panorama buffet BAR opens at 630am. I will get my latte from the dining room bar on deck 5 and do a comparison! I like my iced latte to be shaken, it makes it really foamy and yummy and they were

Most accomadating to do that..with a little spray cream..yum!

Beverage MENUS..while I was waiting for my latte I did a little reconnaissance on the beverage menus and it looks like they have been

Updated since I took pictures of them on Star Princess..

So I will take some pictures and post them when I get home.

Ciao for now

Pacific Princess Embarkation June 11th

We used Terrene Tours to take us to the pier. We had a private van and it easily held our luggage. The charge was $48. We left the hotel around 10:50 and were in the cabin by 11:35. The terminal was virtually empty when we arrived so I guess we picked the perfect time. It was a flawless embarkation. The new cruise terminal at Pier 91 is pristine. The escalator treads are still clean and shiny. I knew the passengers would be older than usual on this 14-day Alaska cruise, but I was still surprised by the average age and physical condition of the passengers. It is nice and surprising that I am relatively certain I am in the youngest 10% on board and that includes the few kids I’ve seen. It looks like us kids will rule the night….and the day.

By 6PM it was really cold on the balcony. The jury is still out on the aft balcony on this ship. The in-hull balcony does somewhat obscure the view when sitting and the slope of the aft seems to allow the wind to whip around so it is not as warm as I expected it to be. We are also able to smell the diesel fumes quite a bit. I am hoping once our nostrils turn black, we won’t notice it. That being said, it would be impossible to sit out on a side balcony without the plexiglass wind deflectors that other Princess ships have. It’s cold. I’m not complaining about the cold and I wish all my hot friends back home could enjoy just a little of it. (“Hot” friends? Hmmmm)

We reserved the ultimate balcony dinner for tomorrow and the chef’s table for later in the cruise. Both couples are celebrating anniversaries tomorrow though the actual dates are after the cruise ends. Since it will be a sea-day we were offered something I have not heard of before. They offered to host the Ultimate balcony dinner in Sabatini’s exclusively. We will be the only people in the restaurant. Given the wind chill factor on our balcony, we accepted. Fantastic! Details will follow.

Second seating dinner began at 8:15 PM and ended about two hours later. That translates into finishing dinner at 1:15 AM for us. That’s not something we often do. We enjoyed our dinner though I finally excused myself before desert, as I simply cannot sit still in one place for that long. When I do, my butt gets all stove up. We spent a little time freezing on the balcony, laughing (I hope our neighbors have a tolerance for such) watching the Mariner of the Seas catch and pass us, then called it a night. We were (with the possible exception of Keith) completely exhausted.

The Anniversary Celebration June 12, 2009

The day began at 6:30 AM with coffee on the balcony. Rex, Diane and I went to breakfast and then to the casino that offered players free BM’s and Mimosa’s from 10-11 AM. I would not recommend going for the free drinks but the penny slots were fun. They took our money one penny at a time. That, my friends, is proof that pennies do in fact add up to dollars. Keith went to the steamroom in an effort to resist eating before the evening gluttonfest.

We went to the cha-cha dance lessons in the Pacific lounge. Keith and I were spectators and Diane broke it down. I am not sure where Rex was, probably gossiping with the ladies in the laundry room. We later returned to the balcony for homegrown BM’s. This made Keith hungry so he and Diane went to the buffet for “only” salad and fruit. Five thousand calories later they returned to their cabin for a power (three hour) nap.

AFT BALCONY, BABY!!! Rex and I spotted our first whales at 1:04 PM. For fifteen minutes we watched them. One just kept slapping his tail over and over again. We saw countless breaches. You miss all of that if you are not aft. Wow! What a show! Gimee somemore diesel fumes.
More of the day later…..

Hi Pam, so glad to see you are still writing entries, I so enjoy your blogs.
I could very well be considered one of your "hot" friends, could use a little cool air here in Ohio today.
So exciting to hear about the whales, what a beautiful thing that must have been to watch on your balcony. I am really interested to hear how your chef's table experience goes.:) Have fun!!

Re: Shuttle bus transfers you can purchase from shorex

The walk into Valdez is easy if you can walk on sidewalks the entire way. There's a nice viewpoint that you can hike up to on the hill between the pier and town which gets you a nice view of the ship, bay and mountains. The walk between the pier and town goes around the hill.

We didn't walk into Seward as we did the Kenai Fjords tour.

The Kodiak walk isn't so much fun as there are no sidewalks for part of the way but you get to see the fish processing plants. Note: if you take a tour and get dropped off in town after your tour you can hop the shuttle back to the pier without a shuttle transfer.

As the ship left Kodiak last Friday the eagles were circling over the boats besides us waiting for a snack. It was pretty amazing.
