ricskill Posted June 12, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2009 OK, here it goes. Please excuse the typing 5/31/2009 sailing Conquest 5/30 ( Saturday) drive from Amarillo to League City was about 11 hours. Arrived about 1030am and lunched with friends we have there. I had booked Super 8 with a Visa just minutes from our friends house. Check in at 2pm, now the night mare begins. I had booked a room that would sleep 5. Room key cards would not work . Let me say you need a translator to talk to these people. Once inside we found 2 queen beds, called desk and asked for a roll away, said they would bring one. Being drug out after the trip we all napped till 6pm still no roll away. Had fast food nearby and decided to make the 23 miles to Galveston to check the city out, back to the room after dark. Room key cards would not work, once inside still no roll away and demanded that I bring ten dollars cash to the desk to receive one ( they had my Visa card on the booking) Ok ten dollars wasn’t going to ruin a vacation. Up at 6am (Sunday) checked the web cam there she is the Conquest, the excite level goes up. Check out sent daughter in with cash and they had already charged my Visa with another ten dollars for the damn roll away. Ok wasn’t going to let twenty dollars ruin a vacation. Desire for a DOD out weighed staying and arguing. South 23 miles across the bridge on to Harbor drive we see the Whale Tail WOO HOO excite level up more. Second cruise for wife and I but first for daughter and grandsons. Parked at Harbor House checked out the patio, gassed up the car and off the EZ cruise at 930 am. In the terminal about 10am through scanners to check in no stopping. Seated in zone 1 by 1030am. Very smooth embark , fun watching the newbie’s step on board. I park at the atrium bar while wife and daughter see the pursers desk. On the lido eating before noon. Rooms were ready on the nose at 130pm. Wife and I in 6229, daughter in 6223, had all the checked bags before mustard (lol) drill. Muster drill was before sail away. The ship The Conquest is in great shape The cabins 6223-6229 Upper deck Cabins were great, we are now spoiled to a balcony. Never knew what we were missing not having one. Great to have the couch and balcony. The crew All outstanding Special people our stewards, waiters and their assistants. I can’t say too much about Chris the CD he was out and about the entire cruise came to our meet and mingle. Special thanks to host MACH . Chris sends hello to Mach and Lambie. The food Very good Dining rooms, room service, specialty grills, deli all outstanding. We did late seating this time, so we were not rushed at ports, got early shows and were not rushed dining, Great service, grandson had 3 lobster tails elegant night. Not on the menu ask for it, our boys had banana splits The ports Well we know Cozumel was dearly missed. Jamaica, we did Sunset beach resort again this year. The food there was outstanding this year. MoBay No problem mon. Cayman Done the shopping thing with the gang, they caught a cab and enjoyed seven mile beach, I went back to the ship to chill. The activities Wife and daughter tried to do every thing in the capers. Me I concentrated on buckets of beer and the casino. Tried the poker pro Texas holdem. Embark Thought we might try self assist decided not had number 17 out of 30, very few people, found our bags walked straight to customs (no line I am dreaming) on the curb at 930, EZ cruise by 1000
LorrieB Posted June 12, 2009 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2009 I absolutely LOVE the Conquest. She is so big and beautiful. I'm glad to know that embarkation was a breeze. It was that way for us too. We dropped off our luggage at 9:30 a.m. to the porter. Went to get breakfast, returned by 10:45 a.m. and were boarding by 11:30 a.m. Now how can anyone complain about that? Did you try the sushi? You said that the lobster wasn't on the menu for formal night? Wow. I thought that was one of the attractions. Did you enjoy all the shows? Do you know how much longer Chris will be on the Conquest? We are boarding her November 8-15, 2009, and were just wondering who our CD will be. I love reading reviews about the Conquest. Yes, it is easy to get spoiled with the balconies. Our first cruise, on the Conquest, was also a balcony. We are cruising on the Ecstacy in February 2010 and can't decide if we should stick with our oceanview or upgrade to a balcony. I think we will give the oceanview a chance. My last request.... photos, photos, photos. Nuff said!!!!!!!!! Thanks for posting.
