English_in_Spain Posted June 23, 2009 #2 Share Posted June 23, 2009 We always get a full travel insurance. For Europeans the cruise lines insist on it. It gets more and more difficult (and expensive) as we get older. Our cover includes cancellation (as we have to pay if we cancel), delay, medical, luggage and personal posessions, personal liability - just about everything you can think of. For our latest trip it cost $800 for the 2 of us for 33 days cover
Stevesan Posted June 24, 2009 #3 Share Posted June 24, 2009 what kind of cruise insur. do you get when you book your cruise You need to review plan details to meet your needs. Here's HAL's CPP: http://www.hollandamerica.com/assets/cruise-vacation-planning/Pre_09.01.09Cert.pdf if that isn't a good fit, check this web site for a variety of different plans: http://www.insuremytrip.com/ Select "Quote And Buy" to customize. skankycat Posted June 24, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 24, 2009 what kind of cruise insur. do you get when you book your cruise We get the 'cancel for any reason' for the cruise itself, and, unfortunately, we've had to use it. And cancelling went smoothly. Hotels can be done with 24 hours notice and we fly Southwest, so we have a year to use our airfare money if we have to cancel. When we cancelled our cruise three years ago, Southwest gave us a full refund since we had a letter from our doctor explaining that one of us couldn't fly. FunForUs Posted June 24, 2009 #5 Share Posted June 24, 2009 what kind of cruise insur. do you get when you book your cruise In addition to cancellation protection, medical evacuation coverage is also advisable. On our last transatlantic someone had to be taken from the ship by helicopter which can be very expensive. Another good place to check for insurance options is TripInsuranceStore.com They have a lot of good information on their website as well as being available on the phone for questions. Nasmas Posted June 24, 2009 #6 Share Posted June 24, 2009 We always get full coverage. The past several years, we've used insure my trip. We've even collected from them twice. The first time, was a week before sailing and my husband got sick. They had to pay 100% and did in a short time. The other time, we were far enough out that they only had to pay about 50% but I'd recommend them anytime.
