Snorkle trips offered or taken

I had read so many good things about Edventures on the Playa del Carmen forum that we did that while staying in Cancun one year. As everyone on these forums states, it was one of our best days ever since we've been traveling to the area. We drove to Tulum to meet up with Eddie, though now they will do a pick-up at Cancun hotels (for a fee).

We snorkeled at Dos Ojos a cenote cave, which was amazing. Next we went to Akumal bay to snorkel over the reef and with sea turtles. Last stop was Yal-Ku lagoon, which was OK, but I would have rather have spent more time in the caves than here. We created our own schedule and everything was based on what we wanted to do and when. This was an all day outing for us.

I've also done a combined Tulum/Xel-Ha trip which was just too rushed feeling. I've snorkeled at Tulum and it was OK, but really crowded and I'm just not into the super touristy things.

Another trip we've done is taking the ferry over to Isla Mujeres, renting a golf cart to see the island and going to the hotel next door to Garrafon park. (Castillo de Garrafon or something like that) For a nominal fee ($5 or so) you can use the beach club there (lockers, chairs, umbrellas) and snorkel seeing the same things the more expensive park offers. Food is available for purchase on site. You can catch the Ferry at either Puerto Juarez (cheaper and runs more frequently) or in the Hotel Zone at the Embarcadero (about $15 USD round trip).

El Garrafon (the park) and Xel-Ha both have AI admission options.

Hope this gives you some ideas. You might also check out the Trip Advisor Cancun forum for suggestions.
