amybeth4 Posted July 2, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 2, 2009 No one can explain it better than RCI. It's on the Freedom, Liberty and Indy: Only Royal Caribbean gives you the chance to surf onboard a ship. The sloped, wavelike surface of the FlowRider is perfect for beginning, intermediate and advanced surfers. And the surrounding stadium seating and bar are great for surveying wipeouts. Try it out on our Freedom class ships. Who would ever think to put a surfing attraction onboard a ship? Well obviously, we would. The FlowRider surf simulator attracts hundreds of eager surfers and oglers to the aft sports court each day. Even guests who never thought they'd try something like this are giving it a go. How It Works The FlowRider sends a thin sheet of water up a sloped and (thankfully) cushioned platform to create a wavelike flow of water. So it's perfect for beginning, intermediate and advanced surfers. After receiving safety instructions and a few tips for a successful ride from our instructors, you can let 'er rip standing up (flowboarding) or lying down (bodyboarding). Carve, try tricks and otherwise show your stuff as spectators cheer you on from the surrounding viewing platform. If you hear a collective "Owww" in stereo as you wipe out, you'll know you've been broadcast on the flat-screen tvs in the adjacent Wipeout bar. CruiseQueenie Posted July 2, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 2, 2009 And for chickens like me who never even attempt it - it is AWESOME to sit and relax and watch the fun. It is amazing to watch little kids to old kids doing the flowrider!!
