Deblori Posted May 8, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 8, 2004 Are the cabins on the Serenade wired for internet access? Unfortunatly I'll be checking in at work when on our Alaskan Cruise and would prefer to do it from the comfort of my cabin using my laptop, rather than a public internet cafe. Thanks so much in advance ! Deb
thedrunkrock Posted May 8, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 8, 2004 On the Seranade the answer would be NO unfortunately, there are only a handfull of RCI ships that have it in the staterooms, but they do have internet access on board in the Cyber Cafe
madforcruising Posted May 8, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 8, 2004 I have no first hand information on this as I haven´t sailed the Radiance Class ships and especially the Serenade so far. From the RCCL website I read that all Radiance Class ships (and the Serenade is one of them) have hook-ups for Internet use with your own laptop in your room. You need to go to the pursers desk to get one of these hook-ups. From what I have read here on the boards you should do this as soon as you board the ship as there is only a limited number of them available and it´s first come first serve. I don´t think you can preorder it. The cost is I belive 100$ for 7 days. gopatriots Posted May 8, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 8, 2004 I was aboard the Serenade last year and accessed the internet from my cabin. Had to go to guest relations first. Worked great.

cmjaffe Posted May 10, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 10, 2004 Hey Deb (and LB) YES you can get internet access in the cabin (albeit slow) on Serenade. You'll LOVE the GS cabin that Nanci reserved for you and also please send my regards to Maritza in the concierge lounge. She was the BEST when I sailed on the Serenade to Canada w/my aunt this past September for a shortie cruise. If we didn't sail on Visions last July to Alaska I'd be joining you all, but as Nanci knows we couldn't swing it again this year. Glad to see your post. You'll LOVE Alaska. the_psycho Posted May 10, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 10, 2004 The internet connection isn't that bad. When we were on in March, it was a 10base ethernet connection, that while not fast, was faster than dialup speeds. We paid $100 up front for the service, and it was fine from there. As a note, be sure to get to the purser's desk early, as they run out of the connection kit, and then you're out of luck. <color=#8b0000>until Serenade of the Seas Spring Break 2004!! PR1NCESSD1ANE Posted May 11, 2004 #16 Share Posted May 11, 2004 I'm posting from the Serenade right now. I was surprised to learn that they also offered a daily rate of $15, so you don't have to pay the full $100 if you don't need it all week ($150 for us though since we are on an 11 night sailing). The speed is slow, but I've seen worse.
mdmourges Posted May 11, 2004 #17 Share Posted May 11, 2004 I did the internet thing from my room on the Brilliance. Only problem was that the jacks weren't marked and some are analog for the internet connection and the other are digital for the phone system. Hooking my analog modem into the digital jack fried my modem. RCI came down later and labeled the jacks and I picked up a cheap ($50) USB modem in Aruba. So, if they are not marked, be careful.
