Just returned from an overnight cruise on the Empress. They did not stretch her. She looks great. The few changes are: they replaced the carousel bar with a schooner bar, put in a Portofinos, added a Seattles Best coffee area and a Ben and Jerrys. There is new carpeting also thoughout the ship. Those are really the only changes I noticed.

I was on the last sailing (demolition cruise) of the NE. Didn't they make a new gym/spa? They said that the upstairs of the Crown Viking Lounge was going to be the new one? Just wondering? bev

I just got off the ship as well. Getting into and out of Bayonne was as easy as can be...what a difference from NYC and the West Side Highway. There are several changes that were mentioned here. The Bolero latin themed bar in the back is beautiful. The Schooner bar is similar to what you see on many RCL ships with comfy new chairs. The Casino has been moved and updated. The upper deck of the Viking Crown is the health club, which is VERY odd to see people downing drinks and smoking while people as working out above them. There is a lot of new carpet laid down already but they have a long way to go. All of the pool and deck carpeting was laid down yesterday and it is springy and shedding all over the place. The Portifino is being finished and will not open until late May. So....the port was a nice experience, the new areas of the ship are nice, but the "rejuvination" is still a work in progress.

i also just got off the overnight on the empress of the seas.I am not a travel agent but was invited by my TA to see the ship.

The pier(cape liberty) check-in area is about 1/2-3/4 mile from the ship. You have to take a shuttle bus to the ship and then we walked up 7 flights of stairs to embark! This could be a mega struggle for PAX with carry-on luggage.

I have never been on this ship before so i cant compare i can only tell what i saw.Personally i don't believe they are ready for PAX to embark today and sail to Bermuda. The public areas were nice looking and new carpets abound. They spent most of the money on the public areas. They needed to pay more attention to the staterooms!

The rooms still need a lot of work...I had an inside broom closet(oops cabin) 118 square feet and i cant imagine WHERE you will put clothes for 7 days let alone 10/11 days they planning.

The room was not very clean/had stained carpet. No glassware to drink from. I spoke with 2 couples that could not stay in their cabins because of floods(3 inches of water on the carpet and floors) The hallways were strewn with trash.

i found the dining room(carmen) pleasant looking but tables and chairs were VERY CLOSE together and difficult to maneuver.

If anyone likes Dale Chihuly blown glass...In the middle of the casino they have a light fixture from him.(constellation has a huge dale chihuly sculpture)

i know that things will eventually straighten out but i feel sorry for passengers leaving in the near future.

These are just my opinions.

Sweet,

Are you serious? I can't believe that all passengers actually walked up seven FLIGHTS of stairs. That seems impossible.

Is the Chihuly work very large?

judy,

I had asked if we HAD to walk up the staircase and the staff said Yes if you want to get on the ship.I was told only wheelchair and handicapped pax could use floor 2 to embark.

The Chihuly sculpture was not huge but noticeable(to me anyway) Its all yellow glass.

these are the smallest rooms in nthe fleet. Inside rooms 117 sq ft. tahts 10 by 11.

outside no bertter and the suite is overpriced.

rooms need to be redone and a curtain put in front of the bed so if a steward opens the door he /she could see you in bed. Bathroom fits one... so if you can take closeness its fine.. imagine what the crew must have so dont complain
