Did quick answer! Elevator on Voyager class (Mariner)

Recommended Posts

My parents are currently booked in a stateroom on Deck 10 forward of the "Hump" (about half way between the mid and forward elevators). Although they are near the elevators, they are further away from the rest of the family as we are on the aft.
I have found a stateroom that has opened up for our cruise that is nearer the aft and closer to the aft elevators. However, I recall there being talk that the aft elevators were not for passengers. Is this true or are they for passengers also? I am not talking about the "Crew Only" stairs, but the elevators across from 1658.
I don't want to have my parents moved if they can't use those elevators.

The aft elevators are for passengers. Areas not designed for passengers are not reflected in the deck plans in the brochure.

Thanks Jerry! Now, I am having trouble contacting my TA. I was going to get her to change their stateroom for me.
I can put a courtesy hold on the stateroom, but I don't know whether to put my parents name or my name on the hold. They require both passengers names.

ok. I'm having problems with my computer so I just wanted to get that in. You know how I was just on the Mariner. Well, I was in a JS 1358. The elevators directly across are NOT, I REPEAT NOT for passengers.

There is one set of forward elevators and one set of aft elevators for passengers. The elevators further back toward the far aft cabins are for the crew and enclosed behind doors that are generally shut and they are quite strict about it. OK, we did sneak up the steps to the Windjammer when someone left the doors open. But, the elevators are not usable. Hope you get this in time. I cannot imagine why they would put these on the plans....perhaps fire code etc. But, I thought they might be usable also and found out differently. Hope this helps. Please ask any furher questions that I may answer.

This is what I love about these boards! Even though my parents would be closer to us, they would have a hike back and forth to their stateroom during the day. Thanks for the warning.

I just noticed that those stairs are not shown on any of the other decks. ODD!

Are those stairs outside of 1358 for crew or passenger? I know the ones very aft(outside of 1688 are for crew only.

Also, do you still have the daily Compass for Kids that you could email me? I am looking for the 9-11, 12-14 and 15-17 age groups.

Did you take pictures of your staterooms?

Oh good, I got you in time. I love computers, but sometimes!

The stairs across from 1358 are crew only. On the first day, they were open so my daughters....of course ran up them. We found out real quick they were for crew. At the top, they sent them back down. My hubby did run up once though and got away with it.

One good thing...that is where your luggage will be brought up to. We just kept an eye out and got our own....all 5 bags ourselves.
Needless to say we were able to dress for dinner. It was close. If we hadn't grabbed them with no time to spare....well, it would have just been a shame not to wear one of the hundred outfits we had packed!

I sure do have them, hopefully I can get that computer working well enough this evening. I wish some of these hackers and virus creators would discover cruising!

No, sorry I didn't take pictures of the cabins, what type do you have? If it's a JS or an inside M I could tell you about it.

No problem with the pictures. My parents are in a JS and I thought it might be nice to see yet another photo for them. We have the D, 1688. The children are in an inside.

It's a real shame that the designers of the Voyager class failed to put passenger stairs and elevators far aft. We were looking forward to using those stairs.

Did you have a problem with noise from the luggage on the LAST night?

Yes! I am going to miss the JS this cruise. Loved the tub and larger closet. Our bedroom closet at home is around 10 x 12, so we find it hard to get use to that little sliding closet on ships.

Jillydog,
We are also going to be in room 1358 on Mariner in October. Can you let me know your likes/dislikes of the room? This is our first js, and we are very excited for the extra room (especially with just the two of us). I know that there are not perks like concierge, but would love to know what you thought of the room and its location. Also, how was the balcony?

Grins88 - You will love 1358. It was very quiet down this hall. I do believe that the hallways on the 10th deck are wider. It was very comfortable walking down. I may be wrong, but it really did feel wider.

The JS has a great layout. The bathroom is wonderful! I would take a bath in the am to get ready and then a shower in the evenings. I never do this at home! Also it is larger so 2 people can coexist in there when necessary.

The walk-in closet is handy especially if you bring a hundred outfits to change into 3 or 4 times a day. Yea, but when else can you do that? Also I have heard of adults sharing a JS and using the closet as a changing room. You could do that.

There is a lot more room between the bed and the vanity/desk. Next to the window and the sliding glass door there is a chair with a wall shelf and across....a sofa bed. Don't know if you plan using the sofa bed. We didn't, but had it in case our kids got scared across the hall.

I turned the chair around to face the window (a little redecorating) I used the little shelf for my makeup. Our cabin stewards actually organized my make up for me, putting the pencils and mascara in glasses and giving me a box of tissues on it also. They had picked up my que in the bathroom where I had used the glasses for the toothbrushes and tooth paste.

While I was on the Mariner I did a live update where I talked a bit about the cabin: http://messages.cruisecritic.com/2/OpenTopic?q=Y&a=tpc&s=927093444&f=408097554&m=698109621&p=1

One thing....DO NOT miss the sunset from the balcony in St. Thomas. It was the most beautful on the trip. That's if you're going eastern. The balcony was great. It was fun at port when everyone kind of hung off their balconies. We would chat with each other at that time only. I took a nap out there in my robe one day at sea....amazing. There is one lounge chair, a small table and 2 chairs.

Watch out for the window washers! They come right by your balcony while in port. Look left and right while in port before planning any excursions on your balcony!

It's a tiny bit of a hike to the elevators, but once there...you can walk right up the steps to the Windjammer. Extremely convenient. We decided to always stay on deck 10 for this reason mostly. We really enjoyed Jade. Try it. Good quality foods and deserts.

Also, I'm sure you saw the info above about the far aft stairs and elevators. This was really no problem...try to sneak up it at least once though! And keep an eye out for your luggage!

Have a great time. It will be like no other. Be sure to enjoy your balcony and also visit deck 4 for a real ship experience. You can walk all the way around the outside of the ship.

I wish I were going back with you. We booked another cruise while onboard. It actually did help curtail the post cruise syndrome. I highly recommend it. Have fun!
