kayak17 Posted July 13, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 13, 2009 I have heard a lot about chilkoot train tours, i was wondering if they are the only independent ones in skagway?
Coolcruise02 Posted July 13, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 13, 2009 You can buy your train ticket on line.
mauicruiser Posted July 19, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 19, 2009 The price of the train ticket is the same cost online as what Celebrity offered in their tour package--however, tour took you to station with quick town tour and movie. It is worth the money to do the four hour tour--train/bus. This is an exceptional trip that will leave you feeling awed at what gold miners were willing to endure just to get to the gold fields. mountainhouse Posted July 21, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 21, 2009 They are the only local Independent company, that are doing reservations, there are other companies that take you to the depot and let you buy your ticket then do the bus portion for you, but then you take a chance in not getting a seat on the train that you wish to ride? If the ticket counter knows you are off the ship they will send you back to your ship to buy your ticket. (It's called a exclusive contract for that ship and they can't sell you a ticket) Huh? We reserved online in advance, so knew we had seats on the train. We had a great day with Dyea Dave into the Yukon, and then took the train back from Fraser. Several people did this, and we were all off ships. Were actually refused a ticket by WPYR? krogerlady Posted July 21, 2009 #5 Share Posted July 21, 2009 We took the 7 1/2 tour with Chilkoot, after much research, and we were all very pleased with the guides, the stops we made, the lunch....saw bears on the way back and the driver of our tour van stopped every time so we could take pictures. Chilkoot has been doing it for a long time, they have listened to what the people want and they do an outstanding job. Loved every minute!
