Ks Bob Posted December 21, 2004 #1 Share Posted December 21, 2004 We just returned from the Elation with a stop in Belize. We did the Lost World Canopy Tours and it was awesome!!!! They just started this excursion a couple of months ago and I hadn't seen anything on CC about it. This is an exciting series of traverses along cables between platforms above the jungle canopy. There are also a couple of rappels down. The scenery is gorgeous from above. The staff were well trained and extremely safety concious. This is definitely worth doing. LauraG Posted December 21, 2004 #2 Share Posted December 21, 2004 Sounds interesting. Did you book through the ship? Would this be something children would enjoy (5, 8, 12, 14 years old) and what was the cost? Will be on the Legend in a little more than a week. Thanks, Laura
michigangoose Posted December 22, 2004 #3 Share Posted December 22, 2004 also did the canopy tour, cost $99 per person, your yougest kid at 5 might be too small, it was a fun tour and definatly different, the ride to the place is not as exciting as described, just a bumpy bus ride
Backfence Posted December 27, 2004 #4 Share Posted December 27, 2004 How long does it take (from dock to canopies to dock)? We arrive in port at 1 p.m. Is this do-able with that schedule?
LKitt82566 Posted December 27, 2004 #5 Share Posted December 27, 2004 Can you tell me more about this excersion. We are coming to Belize the end of Feb on the Splendour of the Seas and I think this is something added to our excerstions but no description of the tour. Do you have to be young, strong, and light to do this?
Ks Bob Posted December 27, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted December 27, 2004 It took us from 8am to 2:30pm (Time we boarded tender to the time back on Elation. We talked with one of the owners while we were there and they said that they stagger the times to try and accomodate all the ships. Once on shore, it is 1-1 1/2 hour bus ride each way. I believe the age requirement is 8 and there is a weight limit of 250-265lbs. You don't have to be physically strong, just able to walk up an uneven trail up a hill. Its a short walk and I am far from "in-shape" and had no problem. They do pretty much everything else for you. They gear you up and keep you tethered to safety lines all the time. When is time for a traverse, they hook you up, do a safety check, and then you just sit back in the harness and lift your feet. Gravity does the rest. We were a little worried before going about fear of heights, but that wasn't bad at all. All the platforms are on the side of hills and surrounded by trees, so it doesn't seem that high. Once we got there the excitement overpowered any fears we might have had. If you are looking for a dry tour, this is definitely it. Have fun.
