Shuttle from San Luis Obispo to Pier 35 -SFO

Since your location says "Central Coast" you should probably be very savvy on any shuttle services. If you haven't found any there probably isn't one. I suggest either Amtrak or renting a car.

Hi,

That is a 235 mile haul and if the cost of flying on UA to SFO shocks you, consider taking Amtrak's Coast Starlight from San Luis Obispo to Oakland and an Amtrak Shuttle to Pier 39 the day before the cruise (The train departs at 3:43 PM and the Thruway bus arrives at Pier 39 at 10:25 As an alternative, the bus also can deposit you right in front of the Hyatt Regency in the Embarcadero Center close by.) The next morning you can sightsee before embarking. Upon your return, again camp out in SF and take the Thruway bus the next day to Emeryville and catch the southbound Coast Starlight to San Luis Obispo (the bus leaves Pier 39 at 7:25 AM and you will be home at 3:20 PM.)

Done right, the difference betwen train and plane could pay for the hotel room!

I have heard that AMTRACK is very unreliable on this route. How about renting a car one way?

A couple of years ago, timekeeping really was awful for Amtrak's Coast Starlight, due primarily to the dispatching of their trains by Union Pacific, the host railroad. It was routinely 4 -12 hours late.

This has improved greatly over the last year. The ontime arrival performance for the Starlight is now 87% for the year. Although any individual train can get delayed, overall, timekeeping is no longer an issue.
