Question about cruising to Mexico with NON-US CITIZEN

One of the cruisers in our group is a US Resident (green card holder), but not a citizen. None of the info we've found at border control, etc addresses this specifically. Does anyone have any experience with this? Trying to make sure we have any necessary additional paperwork.

At airports, green card holders are allowed through the citizen line at customs/immigration so I'm kind of thinking it will be OK for the cruise too?

Appreciate any advice! :)

My husband is a resident alien as well. He just brings his green card and drivers license. They keep his green card when you check in. They go to a separate customs thing super early in the morning on your last day, when they get the green card back...then they get off the ship just like you do.

That's great to know and will put our minds at ease. Been worried about arriving in Galveston only to find out that one of us can't board!

Them keeping the green card is a little worrisome, but I guess if that's the way it works, that's the way it works.

Thank you so much!

LocoLala,

I'm a citizen now (since August 2008), but when I was a resident I took 7 cruises and all I needed to show them was my Green Card and I always brought with me my valid/unexpired Dominican Passport (to be stamped to have a record of all trips taken outside the US - for purposes of filling out my naturalization application).

Anyhow, Carnival never took possesion of my green card. I kept it with me in the cabin safe. I know what you mean about giving up that very important document!
