melgray13 Posted July 19, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2009 We would really love to travel to Asia and are trying to decide the best method - cruise, tour package, on our own, ect. It would be great to give any input you have if you've cruise Asia, esp with RCCL. We are looking at Legends of the Seas out of Shanghi stopping at Nagasaki, Kagoshima, Fukoka and Busan. Thanks in advance :)
buffalogrill Posted July 19, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 19, 2009 I did a 4 night RCI cruise on Rhapsody out of Singapore in Dec 07. Things may have changed somewhat since then with the RCI product for the Asian market, but this is what I found: the onboard clientele was almost entirely local. Not a problem for me as I've lived in the Far East and therefore knew what to expect. There could be a (limited) element of culture shock though if you're expecting the other cruisers to be Western tourists. I've heard that the opposite may be true on longer cruises though (ie 14 nights). the food offering I found to be more diverse, particularly in the Windjammer. There were also other small differences, such as the room service fruit plate wasn't the standard one you would get on Europe/Caribbean cruises, but contained gorgeous exotic fruits. barely anyone was drinking in the bars so if a lively bar scene is important, you may be disappointed. entertainment was based on 'visual' acts that transcend language barriers (I know this is true of a lot of RCI cruises). Let me know if you have any more specific queries and I'll do my best to remember the answer!
