Calling other cabins (like in a hotel)...

I leave on NOS this weekend, and it's my first cruise ever (I can't wait!!). My question is about contacting people in other cabins. In most hotels, you can just dial the room number. Can you do that on a cruise ship also, by dialing the cabin number?

Yes, also the phones have the programed buttons for room service, your cabin attendant, guest relations and so on.

There are also "house" phones like in a hotel at several locations around the ship if you need to check in with a particular cabin. A cruise ship is a "floating hotel" and anything you get in a hotel you can pretty much get on a cruise ship.

Another feature that the phones have is name recognition.

 

When you press a room number, it tells you whose room that is.
