hey everyone : ) At your recommendations we're going next week from our valor cruise. I still have a couple questions:

1) they say pay after, how do you carry the cash while tubing or do you really trust leaving your wallet in the bus??

2) what else do you bring when tubing ? I hate to leave my passport, etc. in the bus, usually want it on me.

Let me know if possible! We leave tomorrow! I will review once back but I can say this: I asked a lot of questions and I too was impressed with how quickly they responded via email. They say their internet can be a challenge, but there was never an issue for me. WIthin a few hours I'd have a reply or worse case that night. Thanks in advance!

Best to take a waterproof bag or a little waterproof hard sided container you can pick up at WalMart for about $1. They say that your things will be secure in the bus and the website has a lot about it. I believe it is pretty safe since if they let something happen to your stuff, you will complain to the police and complain on the board. That means that the police may prevent them from taking further tourists (meaning a loss of their way of earning a living) or bad word of mouth on the board will surely hurt their income. They have plenty of incentive to be VERY concerned about your safety and satisfaction.

How long is the walk to the caves? Is it rough terrain, steep, and stairs? I ask cause i have a few members in our group that are bigger and could easily walk a mile but up hill or rocky pathes would make it hard for them.

I am curious about this as well as we have a variety of ages in our group

We are coming in on the Valor in Dec and I was wondering what the water levels are like that time of year.

I am curious about water levels too, but for the end of October. We have 1 non-swimmer in our group and I certainly don't want to encourage her to participate in something that is extra risky at certain times of the year.

I cannot comment on the water levels or current for October and I can only tell you my experience with the walk. Bear in mind that each company or guide may take a different route to the place. Here is a link to my review of cave tubing in 2004 and it might have some good information you in terms of the walk and such http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=28343. Most trips go down the same river but some "put in" earlier. The walk is along a well worn path and if you think of it as a nature hike on a path, you will not be far off. It was not too strenuous but carrying a tube with you becomes tiring. Small children could not carry their tubes the whole way. Of course, you can roll the tube but that becomes clumsy and boring quick. The walk is anything but boring and it is beautiful but it is also HOT. You are in a jungle after all so by the time you reach the jumping off point, trust me, you will be anxious to get in the water. If someone can walk for about an hour (think walking down a city street), they can probably do this with little to no trouble. I could also equate it with time at Disneyworld, a state fair, or any other place where there is a lot of walking but not strenuous climbing. Hope that helped.
