Dress code on Queen Victora

Cunard is not for everyone and there are many many ships sailing similar itineraries for all of us to choose from. Perhaps your husband would be more comfortable on another ship where the dress codes include a casual option that does not require a jacket for men each evening? Cunard is quite clear, and any good travel agent should (by now) know that Cunard adheres to a strict dress code policy.

From expereince with others at my dinning table, a matre'd can and will ask for a gentleman to return to their cabin and get a jacket.

Perhaps Celebrity and or Holland America would be a better choice?

....couldn't have put it better myself. We really must work together to maintain standards. All we expect is a little effort when it comes to sartorial standards; surely this is not too much to ask?

We will be cruising to the canaries on 12th October and am very much looking forward to getting dressed up, we have cruised on the QM2 in the Caribbean and enjoyed the different themed areas at night time in what was essentially the buffet area, does QV have a similar thing going on in the lido at night.

I understand the dress code in the restaurants. Since we will be traveling home by cross country train, we must try to minimize our luggage. And, my DH is not thrilled about wearing a jacket every night for 12 nights! Is it acceptable for a gentleman to dine in the Lido buffet at night without a jacket?

I have just returned from 14 nights on QV and my understanding is that the dress code applied to "the ship" from 6.00 pm, not just the restaurants.

There were a few who ignored this in the casino but the world's not perfect, is it?.

Ocean Village or NCL caters for those who "don't do cruises"

And I, too, was on the Vic yet again recently. No one expects to eat in the Lido in full evening dress - nor do the powers that be expect them to. Those not going to dinner in the formal dining rooms or the shows, roam at their leisure in leisurely clothes.

I think your final sentence is demeaning.

Love this thread! I'm one of those traditionalists who really enjoys dressing for dinner - and dinner on any Cunard ship is an event in my book. Usually I'm odd man out when it comes to the tie/no tie argument at dinner and it's so nice to be in the majority here. For the life of me I do not understand some men who seem to be incapable of wearing a jacket and tie to dinner...as I've said a million times I could sleep in my tuxedo and be perfectly comfortable. Obviously looking forward to our cruise in November!

We have just returned from 14 nights on QV.

People ate in the Lido at night in casual clothing - no jackets.

The Lido did themed menus each night and a section of the Lido was set up as a reservation only restaurant and was very popular - especially the Indian Nights.

In the main dining room, the dress code was observed and jackets were worn. There was very little distinction between elegant casual and informal. We decided that next time around my DH would take 2 suits and alternate them between the elegant casual and informal nights with open neck shirts and ties as required.
